VirginPotty -> To all the Nurses in the house......... (5/13/2010 6:33:49 AM)

Right now there's a nurse helping a woman become a mother, a nurse holding a dying mans hand, a nurse starting a childs IV, a nurse listening to an alzheimers patient tell a story, a nurse missing her family while caring for yours. In a minute it takes you to read this, there are nurses all over the world saving lives. It's Nurses Week May 9-15[image]http://www.collarme.com/htmlarea/smileys/0188.gif[/image].

If you are a nurse, THANK YOU![image]http://www.collarme.com/htmlarea/smileys/0021.gif[/image]

Thank you Potsie...

But can i also include the nurses aides who work just as hard and are invaluable in the care of the patients? The paramedics, who do not get the thanks they deserve, and the awesome volunteers: hospice workers, veterans who volunteer at the VA hospitals, nursing home volunteers, etc. Where it is the nurses who help the patients medically, there are time restraints that do not allow spending the time just listening to the patient, and sometimes a friendly ear is what is needed most of all.

A week to honor nurses is awesome...but there are so many others in the medical field that deserve recognition as well.[:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]

You forgot to mention sponge baths!

Oops...yeah, that job goes to the male nurses aides ("Oh Bubba...the fuzzy patient with the long snout needs a bed-bath...")

This is like the Life of Brian, so apart from Nurses, midwives, nursing asisstants, nurses' aides, volunteers, helpers, Mothers, home helps, male midwives, midwifery assistants, people generally interested in midwifery, aromatherapists, reflexologists, hypnotherapists, chiropracters, podiatrists, chiropodists, orthotists, dental hygienists, practiice assistants, massage therapists, colonic irrigationists, assistant psychotherapists, witches, healers, layers on of hands, handlers of leeches, medically trained nuns, combat medics, the st johns ambulance brigade, the girl guides with the first aid badge, acupuncturists, spot poppers, phlebotomists, haemetologists, surgeons, doctors, paramedics, urologists, obstetricians, and anything that could be described as homo sapiens with any kind of interest in, or knowledge of, applications of the healing and restorative arts, as defined by Hippocrates, have the Romans ever done for us?

Thanks to all the above, they make the world a better place.

You forgot clerical support staff. Good luck getting an appointment with your doctor once I spread the word. [>:]

How many are changing a light bulb as we speak; nobody can change a IV in the dark right?

Come to think of it how many are doing this outside a hospital building?

I know this isn't a popular view but there is more to a health service than doctors and nurses or even face to face medical staff. I could probably list a thousand related trades, this is the problem with these awareness things. When things go wrong (say the hospital IT system storing patient records or the telephone networks) who should we be aware of then?

Thank You and your welcome, VP ! [:D] And thank you to all the other nurses out there. Altho I am a nurse, I am forever grateful to so many nurses who have cared for my loved ones and myself thru the years.

I love Nurses, some of the most interesting and fun people Ive ever met are Nurses.

EMT Nurses seem to be a breed apart and are exceptional human beings.

Happy Nurses week

Happy Nurse Week!
Everyone loves Nurses! And the few I've gone out with were always very frisky!

poshspice -> RE: To all the Nurses in the house......... (5/14/2010 1:37:33 AM)

After 20 years of nursing and 7 of those spent nursing in the army, I can change an IV not only in the dark, but in a water filled ditch, a minefield, a sea of mud and in a helicopter that is flying tactically.

Nurses are rather adaptable creatures, ask those who stayed behind in New orleans.

I will happily have a stab at changing a light bulb but I wouldnt dream of asking the resident electrician to pop in an IV for me.
