Toppingfrmbottom -> Why do sleeping dogs sometimes wag their tails? (5/13/2010 4:32:54 PM)

Ginger is sacked out on the floor, maynbbe not quite asleep, but certainly resting, and out of the middle of no where, she starts wagging her tail. Perhaps she is dreaming, or some happy thought appealed to her?

Has any one else observed this in their dog?

She's probably dreaming.
It has been scientifically proven that dogs do dream.

Some even sleepwalk [:D]

Yep, wagging the tail I have seen many times. And the best one is watching their legs move like they are running. Snoopy says he was dreaming of chasing rabbits in his sleep!

My lab has gotten old, and he appears to be asleep, but when I go near the door, no matter how stealthy, his tail goes to wagging even though he never raises his head or even opens an eye.

ladynlord That's funny! It's like he's got some super high powered perception that lets him sense when you near the door.

Babies and dogs are so fun to watch dream.

It drives me crazy. He'll fall asleep and when his tail starts wagging it's like someone's knocking on the door. Two o'clock in the morning I go look at him after I've been awakened, he'll open his eyes sleepily wondering why I'm waking him up.

He also whines in his sleep, again loudly enough to wake me.

DesFip. Ginger have woken me up crying, but she's crying cause she wants water or out or to get on the bed, she hasn't woken me with her nightmares.

My dog will do that, then wake up and start barking thinking there's someone at the door. She can be amusing sometimes.
