i wish "jesus masturbation christ" wasnt said- its bound to come out my mouth the very next time i drink more than i should. and my mistake for not putting this in my OP, but my question is aimed at those who will chew somebody's ear off on why God doesnt exsist and the whole conspiracy of organised religion behind God. I've heard all the stories, they get less entertaining as time goes on. so wrapping it up- if some are so hell bent (no pun intended) on exersising their disbelief in a God, why say it?

OP - the reason is the same one that when i say "Bugger me" i am not issuing an invitation, i am expressing amazement or disbelief. Equally, when i say "shit" , i am not trying to say that i need to , or that i have a pant load on-board, typically i am exasperated. There are many words in the English language that have multiple meanings, and your example would be one of them. Though i do understand what you are getting at. I worked with a woman that said "frick it" when she meant "fuck it". She was an annoying wench, and i finally asked her why she didn't just go ahead and say what everyone knew she meant. She became most upset with me.

I just want to say.... I love religious stuff. In South America they have all these amazing stickers of Jesus. My personal favorite is the Happy New Year with Jesus surrounded by streamers and balloons. One day, in a silly mood (yes, yes, I know)... I was feeling irreverant. I wrote out post cards to all my friends ... each had a Jesus sticker. I think my favorite one was Jesus on the cross. I had written a speaking balloon wiht him saying "Hey Mom, I can see our house from here." Yeah, I'm going to hell. *wee typo

I don't know if you are a Sopranos fan but in the original HBO versions fuck is a staple of conversation. Then A&E bought the syndication rights and dubbed in every fuck, fucking, and fuck it with frick, fracking, and frig it. Somehow listening to someone playing a mob boss doesn't have the same sense of reality when he says frick. And considering how often fuck was used on the show the A&E version ends up being comical.

To me it is simply a phrase of displeasure. If I say 'motherfucker!' when I stub my toe it has nothing to do with my mother or fucking. It has nothing to do with any God or any religion when I utter 'oh my God oh my God oooooooooh myyyyyyyyy Goddddddddd' like I did with my Owner last night!

I was playing golf with my buddies and I missed a short putt. I yelled out, "Fuck me!"
