Title of this thread is: "Denmark makes homosexual adoption equal to heterosexual. Any suitable couple are given equal rights." Problem in good old US of A is to get a nation-wide definition of "suitable." Think Catholic adoption agencies. I didn't read the article, but I wonder if there's religious loop-holes. I've been doing some interesting work recently. ONE: Been working as a vendor in a farmer's market in one of Denver's "Hawt" new neighborhoods - lots of gentrification of century old houses, lots of yuppies, etc. GREAT interest in re-cycling, composting, and even chickens in back yard. So, Lance, how does that apply? I'm absolutely amazed at the (late-20s) mixed race marriages(?) with (2-4 year old) off-spring that I'm seeing. BUT also - and more on topic - the number of white/white couples with (obviously?) adopted mixed race kids. And even multiple kids that don't "match" the racial make-up of their siblings. TWO: As a census enumerator - I'm seeing exactly the same thing, but in this instance, the neighborhood is low, low income with lottsa subsidized housing. AND, I'm getting the facts, Jack. Just the other day, respondent had 5 people in the apartment - her, her "fiance" (I offered "unmarried partner" and they both liked that.) her daughter (by the same unmarried partner) and her sister. All four of them chose "NO" for Hispanic, Latino, etc. back-ground, and chose Black/African American for race. So, the fifth person was respondent's sister's daughter. 1/2 black and 1/2 "full" Puerto Rican - absent father about little was known except first and last name. Summary: 60-or-70 years ago, such adoptions, marriages, and children were simply inconcievable. (pun intended.) So, as society changes, so do the laws, and vice-versa. THANK YOU to the Danes - they've ALWAYS taken the lead in such social issues and give US Legislaters (national and state) an example. byline - Lance Hughes reporting for "The Gay Perspective News." where a very similar article was published some 25-30 years ago when the Danes struck down anti-sodomy laws. Oh, and another aarticle about 15 years ago when the Danes legalized gay marriage. LOL!
