Because it's an emerald and not as in demand - hence fewer are made and the cost per item is higher, therefore they must charge more to make their money back plus the profit that will allow them to put food on the table. If you aren't getting it directly from the person who made it, there is another required mark-up from those who paid to stock it. Gotta love retail, everyone wants stores to stay in business but not make money. [;)]

Go price the same size stone at a jewelry store. For an emerald butt plug, ninety bucks seems perfectly reasonable. The fake gems will be much cheaper.

im pretty sure the "gems" are plastic or glass.
not a real stone.

You said emerald and didn't link to a site. Therefore I'm just going with what you posted. If it's plastic, shop around.

Sex toys are expensive. Even the ones made en mass are costly, no doubt partially because it's a relatively small market and partially because of the various laws that affect the making, marketing and selling of them.

Beyond that... they cost that much because the market will support it. You charge what you can get.

Time, materials, equipment and profit.

If I remember correctly, they are crystal. Plastic wouldn't have that pretty shiny wow factor. They appear to be exceptionally well made, and most people will only buy one (if they buy any) in their lifetime. Plus all the stuff the green girl said. [;)][:D]

Check the adult only section on eBay - They are listed as low as $15 inc. shipping.
(Type Adult Only in the eBay search bar, then the little blue link for "looking for the Adult Only section?" )

I currently don't have any, but am working on getting some.

Its made of  hand machined stainless or aluminum, polished and set with crystal "jewel" if you find anything for less than 50 you dont have metal and crystal.
I cannot buy them for less than 35 wholesale anywhere
Believe me Ive looked
This is a niche product, you are going to pay for it

ok .hah that will teach me... Cal exotics make a three inch long aluminum jeweled plug ....cost would be around 45$ tops
But it only comes with a blue crystal... altho you can also get it in 4 inches too for 47$

The cheapest version I've seen is chrome covered steel for GBP 16.99 + 4 for shipping to the US. That comes out to about $30

I have seen a few of these around at different sites each time, and I think extreme restraints .com has some, not sure though, or if they do don't remember the price.

Lucylastic,

Let me know what you are looking for (stainless or aluminum).  The stainless is butt expensive because the metal stock is expensive. The aluminum ones aren't that bad of a price.  I was thinking of making mini-stainless steel ones with jewels that you could wear around during the day.  I can easily beat the $35wholesale for the aluminum/jeweled ones.

All jewelry is expensive. TBH, the plugs with real jewels don't look any more expensive than earrings or wristlets with the same hardware would be.

I saw a diamond clown belt buckle going for 11k one time. A really ugly one. In a mall discount jewelry outlet, for crissakes. I admit nothing to be impossible anymore.

Do any of the plugs have real jewels? I thought they were all cut glass.

Post a pic! (not in use though please!)

Meliai -> RE: jewel butt plug? why so expensive? (6/1/2010 5:23:13 PM)

I ordered both a plug and hook from this site - http://www.bmesolutions.org/catalog/c13_p1.html

prices are good, shipping was fast. The plastic 'jewel' had to be glued back in after it was shipped, but it was fine after that.

GotSteel -> RE: jewel butt plug? why so expensive? (6/2/2010 6:09:06 AM)

Thanks for the link, any idea what the anal hook is made of?

Meliai -> RE: jewel butt plug? why so expensive? (6/2/2010 5:09:04 PM)

The hook is stainless steel. I've never seen another one, so am not sure what would cause the rest to be so much more expensive, but we were happy with this.
