In terms of publicity for his actions it could have ended there but the western media loves to create this image of a popular movement and so one man becomes a few more. Discussing the prophet himself and what he did or didn't do during the formative years of Islam is a great way to set fire to the thread. Suffice to say "by all accounts" is an incredibly large exaggeration. Let's leave it at that, shall we, and try to keep the thread more or less on topic and functional.
