TheHeretic -> The Sestak Allegation (5/22/2010 9:08:44 AM)

Now this might be interesting. Joe Sestak, the guy who beat Arlen Specter for the Dem. Senate nomination in Pennsylvania has stated several times now that he was offered a nice job in the administration if he would drop out of the race.

Isn't that called a bribe?

Gotta love Gibbs spending a little time not adding anything.

The story has been out there for a while, but it's just coming to that nice, steaming simmer.

Sestak may face ethics probe over claims of White House job offer

I'm curious to see where this goes. If Sestak refuses to give details, or suddenly denies what he has repeatedly confirmed, it could seriously damage his campaign, and put a Republican in the Senate seat. If he does give details, 'who knew' and 'when' become unpleasant questions for the White House.

Wow! I think they call that "a sticky wicket" in England.
Either way it's a lose/lose for Sestak. What a caniver.

It''s called 'Chicago style' politics here. Nothing has changed.

"A top House Republican",lol, there`s your problem right there.

So when did republicans become concerned with government ethics? Should we allow thieves call others larcenists?

Well, using conservative ideals, principals and practices, unless it`s on video tape,or said under oath,it`s not relevant, true or even existent.

No.   I have dozens of poo poo emails from Arlen Specters office.

Anyone but him.

Nice to see you popping in, O59. Here, check out this video of the AG talking about it. Maybe you can find a new talking point!

Sestak confirms WH job offer to get out of Senate race

Rep. Joe Sestak, winner of the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary, is refusing to provide more information on what job he was offered by a White House official to drop of that race, although he confirmed again that the incident occurred.

The White House was backing incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) in the primary. Sestak acknowledged in an interview in February that he was offered a position by an unnamed White House official - a potential violation of federal law - but has not offered any specifics on conversation. Republicans are trying to use the issue against Sestak in the November Senate race.

I'm sorry, Rich.  All day long I've resisted the urge to post every time I've seen your thread title.  I'm finally giving in to my inner child.  [;)]

I keep reading it as "The Sleestak Allegation" and envision this:

And here I was, thinking it sounded like the title of a Robert Ludlum novel. Just burst my bubble, why don't you.

From World Net Daily:
quote:

If a Democratic member of Congress is to be believed, there's someone in the Obama administration who has committed a crime – and if the president knew about it, analysts say it could be grounds for impeachment.

"This scandal could be enormous," said Dick Morris, a former White House adviser to President Bill Clinton, on the Fox News Sean Hannity show last night. "It's Valerie Plame only 10 times bigger, because it's illegal and Joe Sestak is either lying or the White House committed a crime.
"Obviously, the offer of a significant job in the White House could not be made unless it was by Rahm Emanuel or cleared with Rahm Emanuel," he said. If the job offer was high enough that it also had Obama's apppoval, "that is a high crime and misdemeanor." "In other words, an impeachable offense?" Hannity asked.

"Absolutely," said Morris

The controversy revolves around an oft-repeated statement by Rep. Sestak, D-Pa., that he had been offered a job by the Obama administration in exchange for dropping out of the senatorial primary against Obama supporter Sen. Arlen Specter.

Sestak said he refused the offer. He continued in the Senate primary and defeated Specter for the Democratic nomination.

But Karl Rove, longtime White House adviser to President George W. Bush, said the charge is explosive because of federal law.

"This is a pretty extraordinary charge: 'They tried to bribe me out of the race by offering me a job,'" he said on Greta Van Susteran's "On the Record" program on the Fox News Channel. "Look, that's a violation of the federal code: 18 USC 600 says that a federal official cannot promise employment, a job in the federal government, in return for a political act.

"What did the president know and when did he know it?"

They had Sestak and David Axelrod on CNN and they both stonewalled.
Neither of them would deny it! If they didn't do it just say "no, no job was offered."
But they just would not deny it!
How's all that "transparancy" workin' out down in Washington?

Exclusive: All 7 Republicans on Senate Judiciary Committee Ask AG Holder to Appoint Special Prosecutor to Look Into Alleged Sestak Job Offer

In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder today, all seven Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee "urge the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Congressman Joe Sestak's claim that a White House official offered him a job to induce him to exit the Pennsylvania Senate primary race against Senator Arlen Specter."

The seven – Sens. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Orrin Hatch of Utah, Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Jon Kyl or Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina,  John Cornyn of Texas and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma – allege that the offer would appear to violate federal criminal laws, including 18 U.S.C. 600, which prohibits promising a government position “as consideration, favor, or reward for any political activity” or “in connection with any primary election or political convention or caucus held to select candidates for any political office.”

The most transparent administration ever ? Change ?

Sanity -> RE: The Sestak Allegation (5/26/2010 2:05:05 PM)

There is the appearance that a serious cover up is taking place here. Gibbs refuses to comment on it, Holder refuses to appoint a special counsel, and the cats had the presidents tongue since last July.

It's Bush's fault.
