Had a good friend today tell me that he was frustrated by the number of women on here who "romanticize" the aspects of BDSM. In his mind women are being irrational.

Personally I think its a character trait of women to romanticize and he should be rational and just expect it.

In your mind, what does it mean to "romanticize" aspects of bdsm and are women being irrational in their thoughts?

I think that it extends to more than just BDSM.  What IS it with women and relationships anyways?  Always trying to turn a fuck into an engagement.

I actually don't think it is a female trait I think most people romantacise relationships generally.

It's not just women in the slightest! I can't tell you how many times I've just talked to a sub online and told him what I was interested in and if it matches his interests, he's "madly in love" with me! "You are the perfect Mistress, I love you so much"! Really?! After talking to me online 3 times?!

I've met subs that I could have romatic relationships with and subs that are going to be nothing but play things that will never see me naked!

So I would have to agree with LillyoftheVally, "most people" do romanticize at some point!

To more fully answer your questions:

Expecting a relationship to resemble one of those Harlequin Romance books.  Of course in order to do that you have to have a house with a name.  (Has anyone else noticed that?  The houses always have a name in those books.)

You know, where the guy's animal magnetism just sweeps the female off of their feet and they just cannot resist the pull and attraction of the whole thing after meeting them for 2.5 seconds.

Irrational?  Not so much.  Unrealistic?  Yes.  It is a nice fantasy, but the truth of the matter is that relationships take work.

What is it that makes these women irrational?  Is he making it very clear in the beginning that romance is the furthest thing he is after?
