Sure it is. If you tweak the questions in a biased manner of course it skews the poll results, thats the whole purpose of asking biased or leading questions - and it affects the accuracy directly.

quote:

ORIGINAL: rulemylife

Accuracy in predicting election results is not the same as bias on other issues where the questions can be tailored to receive the response the pollster wants.

Which brings us back to my original point that Rasmussen's polls are almost always skewed in a conservative direction.

Regardless of the issue, his polls tend to be higher than every other poll on the conservative or Republican view.

Lemme just sidestep the namecalling and address Sanity's original post.

Sanity, while it may be true that the private sector is getting squeezed and the public sector is expanding, please not that a lot of that is due to the census and the stimulus, both of which are short-term.  IOW, the public sector will be shrinking again fairly soon.

No, he didn't work for them which is what was asked, and conducting such polling isn't working for the campaign, its contract work. Rassmussen Inc is a private, stand alone business.

Thank you Steven, though I can understand their frustration because all these news stories that are so unflattering to their cause just keep rolling out, one right after another.

You don't think that the best friend the SEIU ever had will do everything he possibly can to keep the momentum going in this direction? I think Obama really believes that the governments primary purpose is to redistribute the wealth. Do you disagree with that?

No Sanity, it's either that you don't understand the terminology or you are trying to push a failing argument.

I've done contract work for companies and while I wasn't an employee of the company I still worked for them, which is what Rasmussen did for Bush and the RNC.

I think its hopeless trying to explain you you what this kind of contract work is or how it works, so I give up.

But if anyone else wants to learn a little bit about Scott Rasmussen and Rasmussen Reports, heres a little snippet from his Wikipedia bio thats illuminating:

quote:

Tony Snow, White House press secretary for President George W. Bush, attacked Rasmussen’s polling on the War in Iraq.More recently, Democrats have attacked his polling on President Obama’s Job Approval Rating and other topics. Rasmussen’s reported Job Approval Ratings for President Obama are typically several points lower than Gallup’s. He says this is because Gallup polls all adults and he polls likely voters.

Both Republican and Democratic candidates for office cite Rasmussen data in their correspondence. Susan Estrich, who managed the Presidential campaign for Michael Dukakis said, “If you really want to know what people in America think, you can't find a smarter guy to ask than Scott Rasmussen."

Rasmussen's polls are notable for their use of automated public opinion polling, involving pre-recorded telephone inquiries. These types of polls have been shown to produce accurate results at low cost. But some have doubted their reliability. In 2004 Slate magazine said they “publicly doubted and privately derided Rasmussen” polls because of the methodology. However, after the election, they concluded that Rasmussen’s polls were the most accurate.

If you do contract work you are working for that person or company.

It is not the same as walking into McDonald's and ordering a Big Mac.

The contractor is not selling you a service, they are contracting with you to do a specific job.

If I put a lawyer on retainer he is working for me, even though he has other clients.

And speaking of snippets about Rasmussen:

Who is Scott Rasmussen?

POLITICAL ACTITIVIES, 1980s-2004.

1987 –In a Jan. 20, 1987 article, the Charlotte Observer identified him as head of the League of Concerned Americans, a group promoting a plan to “change the way the U.S. government spends money.”

1994 – In articles published in the Observer, he was said to be the head of an organization working to impose term limits on elected officials, which was also part of the Republican national agenda at that time.

2001 –Rasmussen self-published a book on privatizing Social Security, titled A Better Deal; Social Security Choice, and thus joined the Republican effort to promote that issue.

2003-2004 - As a campaign consultant, Rasmussen received $95,500 from the Republican National Committee and another $45,500 from the George W. Bush campaign.
--Source: Center for Public Integrity website.

Now explain to me how a supposedly unbiased pollster can promote conservative issues.

Not to mention that he is regularly on Fox News promoting conservative positions.

You'll also find a number of interesting things in the link about his nefarious business dealings including that his father, who was his partner in several ventures, was convicted on felony charges.

I think what you are trying to say is that there is an agency relationship here, namely Rasmussen (sp?) is acting as an agent for Bush in this case. Bush as the client, is the boss of the relationship and guides - directs his agent's actions. This is much more than a customer-proprietor set up, as you indicate.

I'm a self employed lawyer, when a client hires me, I become this agent working to represent his interests. In such a scenario, the client is always the boss, even though he does not have expertise in the field.

Or this view; Economist David Henderson of the conservative Hoover Institution says a shift from private wages to government benefits saps the economy of dynamism. "People are paid for being rather than for producing," he says.

This quote was obviously pointing toward the Bush bailout of Bankers and Hedge Managers who do nothing and create even less.

So you would rather at this point in time these people were all just out on the street starving?  So things like food stamps and unemployment payments are up while paychecks are down.  That's a shock, unemployed people don't receive paychecks.

Which is it,  Marxist, Communist, or Socialist?  You don't really seem to grasp that those terms and ideas are all vastly different.

I take this to mean your just for throwing everyone who might be unemployed under the bus?

wow, you got all that out of a couple of sentences? I went back and reread the op twice and I didn't see where sanity said any of that. Do you always try to put words in people's mouths or do you have a special thing for sanity? No answer really needed, I have read enough of your replies to figure that one out on my own.

Hey cloud boy - Sara Palin never said she could see Russia from her house.

That was Tina Fey in a SNL skit...

And Marxists, denying Marxism, remind me of theives denying their theft.

Yes, but your grasp of Marxism mirrors Palin's grasp of Russia.

Its best if we harken back to Palin's exact words on the subject.

Which of Marx's books have you even read?

Recent threads revealed he doesn't know what libertarianism, liberalism, or even conservatism mean, so without getting into it again, he probably really doesn't realize what those terms mean either. All he's got is bluster and baiting. And the troll game.

Just to put that myth to rest.  What Sarah was saying is that being able to see a country from afar gives insight into that country's political agenda.

And just because I'd like to know.. and I ask this of anyone not posting to any specific person.. What are the examples of where the tickle-down economic policy actually worked?

I'm not a student of Marxism like you clowns are, but what more than a brief bio does anyone need in order to know who Marx was and what he stood for in relation to what it is that you and your brethren preach? When I hear the president emulate Marx, what does that say?

Its interesting how you on the one hand try to hide the obvious and deny your christ head while on the other hand preach his gospel.

But understandable. Of course Marxists have to deny their true agenda.

Of course you do. Look at all the mayhem that sordid religion has wrought...
