Evidently, a hell of a lot.

I'm having a hard time believing the arrogance of this guy...

Well every coin has two sides. If you don't appear in court the judge can only do one thing - issue a bench warrant. What's more many people refuse process service thinking that their legal problems will just go away.

However since the kid did walk out of there with the DVD legally, and his problem is not returning it, it should be a civil matter. If you don't show up the court rules against you since of course, they only can hear one side of the case.

But then (sorry in advance) once you realize it's all a money game, the reason is obvious. If they catch him driving they get to tow his car, make him bail out and all that, despite never having committed a crime. That is the way the game is played these days.

For example I had to bail out my neighbor a couple of years ago for driving under suspension. He had not yet recieved the notice. Why didn't they send it in advance stating that "your license will be suspended in five (or whatever) days ? Because he is not one to fuck with them he would have stopped driving and addressed the problem. But that's not how it works. Instead, despite the suspension took effect THE VERY SAME DAY that he got stopped on his way to work, they got a $500 fine out of him.

And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

I doubt it was just this one incident. Most likely there is more to the story- 30 years - of riffs? Skeletons? Who knows.

What the hell is up in colorado that you can even issue a warrant at all over a library fine? That's civil and I'm suprised that someone even made that quote saying the guy shouldn't be fired...he should. We call it "Robeitis" the belief that wearing an ugly black dress makes you invincible and above the law.

There were 72 times that a warrant was issued without a summons being served. THAT'S what amazed me.

Yeah, well that's where the pesky constitution comes into play. Warrants shall not be issued/arrests shall not be made except upon due process and probable cause is the phrase that comes to mind.....who exactly provided probable cause for this judge? Sometimes I think they forget that they are reactionary creatures and try to do it on their own. However, sitting around every day and listening to speeding tickets and mindless bickering about minutia does tend to lead to them losing their damn minds at times, I won't even tell you about the star chamber incidents that occurred here several years ago.

72 times over thirty years..... (grabs calculator)..... 2.4 times per year average. The guy sat on the bench for thirty years and suddenly he's a louse. Right. The kid who got arrested probably had it right - the judge was a good guy doing an overall good job. Either that of the residents of Littleton are morons.

Ya think? When your profession is to uphold the law and ensure that others do, 72 times of completely ignoring that law is one hell of a big deal in my opinion.

They are appointed by council in Littleton. I want to know why they did not can him for the previous 71 incidents over almost thirty years.

Littleton's a quiet place. The guy was doing his job for thirty years. Nobody (including him) knew that he was doing it all wrong.

I can't see how that could possibly be true. Someone could be on the bench for 30 years and not know the basic tenants of constitutional law?

We've issued warrants for bad checks written for $3

Many municipal judges are hired (and fired) by city council, most others are elected, and either have to be voted out, or brought before some sort of state judicial conduct board.

That's what probably happened. No arrogance. No disrespect for the law. The guy has quietly been doing his job for thirty years and pissed on the wrong person's leg and they canned him. There's likely a back story to this whole story that would fill in all the blanks.
