The man for whom many of you were predicting a draconian future including a lengthy jail term was just sentenced to 100 hours community service, three years probation, and a $1500 fine. No mention of phone tapping and such, as many of you ranted on about.
Turned out just about the way I said it would.

Got to love people who have no clue what a plea bargain is.

Is it your position that what he did was right, ethical, and proper?

"Got to love people who have no clue what a plea bargain is."

Despite my particular background, sometimes I think the process should be done away with. Make them prove the charges they bring within a reasonable doubt. This would serve two purposes, for one people would not skate so easily on heinous crimes, or even the not so heinous. Prove it or the guy walks. This would eliminate the trumped up charges which in the end, at best only served to increase the bail required, furthering the rift between the "justice" for the rich and the "justice" for the poor.

And then when you have a poor defendant who might actually be innocent, he is likely to take a plea bargain because he knows he can't effectively defend himself. With all the trumped up charges, he might need private investigators to find favorable evidence, and whatever kind of research necessary. Who is to pay for all that ? Even the cost of the litigation itself is out of reach for many.

And of course many of these less affluent defendants are of course minorities. So even if the intent is not racially imbalanced, the results certainly are. Of all people, I would think that you hold at least a bit of contempt for the system as it currently operates. I know I do, but not being a tower of virtue I will take advantage of the way it is anytime I can. In no way does that make it fair.

Dont judge me because I sin differently than you.
If you want it sugar coated, dont ask me what i think! It would violate TOS.

Not to mention one of his co defendants was a US attorney's son from the area.

There are no "disenfranchised" save felons.

Checking the registrars rolls for accuracy or otherwise working to stem voter fraud would be valuable community service...
