Humor is very difficult to convey through text. That's why people use emoticons or say lol. Just because you meant it humorously doesn't mean someone else couldn't have written it and meant it to be nasty.

Strangers who you write to are not going to write back and ask if you really mean to be as hurtful as you are. The onus is on you to be clear in your communication. You had one chance to make an impression, you blew it. And blaming her for not writing and asking your intention totally negates the half assed apology that followed.
