Good news, thanks. I wonder if the newfangled retina has a fovea (renamed macula) and if it has a similar distribution of rods and cones, as well as the blind spot which is basically the connection point for the optic nerve. They don't give all that much detail. What I am unsure of though, is if they can overlay it somehow on one's extant neural map within the eyeball. If so a plethora of problems are summarily solved. What is very promising though, is that such a home brew retina is not likely to have many immunolocigal factors, and therefore should not require extreme immunosuppression to avoid rejection, resulting in an overall much more desirable prognosis. Unfortunately though, it is likely to take decades for this technology to trickle down and benefit the common person. It's not like there are going to be signs posted "Blind people show up in Memphis on Tuesday" to say the least. And of course there are a plethora of problems to be overcome. But it is a step in the right direction. T
