Two things:

William F. Buckley wrote a book called 'Up from Liberalism'.  You should read it Tom, pretty good book... and I am sure you would accept a great deal of what he says, about liberalism and conservatism....and it runs along the lines of what Tim is telling you. Nobody required seeing his grades, and he went to a pretty good school, and taught at it.

Secondly, let us not forget that conservatives and republicans voted for Bush-Cheney in droves both times........they weren't holding their noses like they did for McCain-Palin, and the numbers bear that out.  So lets dump that fuckin stooooooooooooopid spin.

Start a new thread Dk.

Back on topic...

From Noonans editorial:

"The American people have spent at least two years worrying that high government spending would, in the end, undo the republic. They saw the dollars gushing night and day, and worried that while everything looked the same on the surface, our position was eroding. They have worried about a border that is in some places functionally and of course illegally open, that it too is gushing night and day with problems that states, cities and towns there cannot solve.

And now we have a videotape metaphor for all the public's fears: that clip we see every day, on every news show, of the well gushing black oil into the Gulf of Mexico and toward our shore. You actually don't get deadlier as a metaphor for the moment than that, the monster that lives deep beneath the sea....

...when you ask a government far away in Washington to handle everything, it will handle nothing well.

She really nails it.

Thanks for posting the link Trucking!  [:)]

Does anybody in here seriously think that the GOP wanted to the win last election and have the sore arsed mouthbreather and Caribou Barbie saddled with the mess they were able to palm off onto the Dems? They wouldn'ty have nominated a bad joke and Pooter in drag if they'd actually wanted to win, after all.

Im hardly worried if he got a barely passing grade on some subject. Passing the Bar is not an easy process. Just like the Nursing Boards, it tests competency across the spectrum. He passed his as evidenced by his licence. Thats all i need to know.

I doubt he received a barely passing grade in any subject.

To even compete for a position on the Law Review you need to be near the top of the class.

Exactly. Im glad you caught on to that. Seems Sanity in his hatred misses many points. He had the Law Review. He was also asked to take a full professor position in Chicago teaching law. A position he declined. I somehow doubt.. actually... i know he would not have been offered that had his knowledge been above par.

When i first heard McCain had a woman running with him, i was excited. The more she opened her mouth, the more appauled i became. Towards the end, i realized that the GOP didnt want to win that election. Even McCain knew.

Noonan wrote, "He Was Supposed to Be Competent" which is just one more way of saying that we should have demanded access to his records prior to giving him the job. Call me a hater (which I don't give a rats ass how hysterical you get) but if someone wants that job they should be willing to divulge their school records.

Willing to divuldge to whom? Are you so sure no one has seen them? No one at all? Seems to me a whole law review committee has seen them, approved them, allowed him to take the Bar, and gave him a license.

Who else needs to see them? Shall we start posting them on the net? newspapers? Send a record to every american citizen? If that is the new policy, better make it retro-active, going all the way back to the first President.

You ever consider switching to decaf?

LOL.. i dont drink coffee.

Sanity -> RE: Ghostbusters and Obama (5/28/2010 8:38:54 PM)

If someone wants to be president it isn't a stretch to ask that person to lay all of his or her cards on the table. Not just Dem cndidatess, any candidate.

We should vet our presidential candidates more thoroughly prior to handing them the nuclear football and the keys to the White House, and the Pentagon, and Air Force One.

tazzygirl -> RE: Ghostbusters and Obama (5/28/2010 8:56:49 PM)

Again, how do you know know he wasnt? Because a few crack pots started laying conspiracy theories at his feet then got pissy when he refused to jump through their hoops?

Like knowing which one was a dry drunk religious nut who had no idea how to run a baseball franchise much less a nation?

No...you introduced it here. You then incessantly harped on it.

In the other thread, you raised the link, and brainiac answered its claims. You raised the comparisons with libertarianism/conservatism and with today's vs. traditional liberalism, and I answered those points.

If you don't want to discuss an issue, or if you're not willing or able to stand behind your words, don't raise those points. Drop it and it's dropped. Instead, you keep bringing it up, and so keep getting answered.

Whoa! But these are your words, yes?

quote:

You and President Bush have the same idea. Get rid of the destabilzing factors (Saddam & Sons, Iran, Syria) so so they may finally join our century, and come out of the stone age. Wow... maybe you really are a Conservative. You're just like Bush!

So, somewhere between Bush and Obama, you changed your mind. Tell me, what happened?

So, I gave my view, you gave yours, then you and your friends entered into that little  circle jerk congratulating you on all that fine cut-and-paste which means nothing in the long run.

'Course it means something......there are some core principles in there that define where you stand.......and you're always quick to suggest Liberalism and Marxism are interwoven. Well....Tom....what are you gaining from talking such utter shite and ignoring a decent argument against what you're saying?

So the only possible conclusion here is that you're not interested in challenging your ill-informed views.....for reasons known only to you.....but it ain't pretty when watching someone constantly making themselves look ridiculous and when offered a chance to learn something and move away from being an object of ridicule....you ignore the help...and continue to post nonsense about liberals and marxists being one and the same.

Strange way of doing things.....but then were you to learn and concede Marxism and Liberalism are like chalk and cheese....then you'd be short of lazy remarks to throw at your political opponents...and you'd have to learn a new trick....which would take effort I suppose.

In particular, conservative leaders' goals and the rhetoric they use to manipulate their base are at odds. Even the Tea Party is starting to wake up to this--they are still woefully missing the target in their haste to lay blame, and so are going to make things worse if they're successful in the short run, but it's a start.

Indeed, Buckley is a great writer. A number of his articles, too, are right on the money.

Also, not only did they vote in droves, they heralded it as a conservative victory, including an internal debate about whether they should govern moderately to achieve broader support or to seize their power and push their agenda while they held the power to do it (which they did).

mnottertail -> RE: Ghostbusters and Obama (5/29/2010 6:16:43 AM)

only cavil--------------------was.  Was a great writer.

So, you've worked at university.  Do they often take the D+ students and hire them as law professors in the major universities?  (I know they might at SUNY..LOL, just kidding....)

Cordially,
Ron

He was...but literature is discussed in the present tense. Shakespeare produced plays in the Globe Theater, but in them, he writes complex characters.

I know you're joking, but in undergrad, only C courses count (or C average); in grad school, B is the floor (including for admission)...that's to graduate (some individual programs have more stringent internal requirements). After one has the degree, official proof of that is required, but no one is interested in the grades, short of honors (cum laude, etc.).

To be hired (and earn tenure) at a university, one must be actively engaged in research and publication (as well as have experience teaching at the college level). For SUNY, that's one major publication every two years, bare minimum. For major universities, this is much higher and much more competitive.

I know nothing about law school--but it's got to be along those same lines.

ETA: D+ students would be on academic probation after their first semester, and on academic suspension after the second. To be readmitted, they'd have to demonstrate C average work at another institution. Yup--that even includes athletes on scholarships. Quite a few freshmen never become sophomores.

mnottertail -> RE: Ghostbusters and Obama (5/29/2010 6:47:14 AM)

So, the hard question now, then Tim.........what are the chances that Obamas transcripts are hiding say-----------to be absolutely rock bottom here based on your actual knowledge of your setting and your erudite knowledge of the uni educational system ----

what are the chances that barry hussein obama is hiding something as reprehensible as a c+ in an advanced degree class that led to his being installed as a professor of constitutional law at Harvard university?

Fox entertainment wants to know the answer to these hard questions. And he's ducking it.......(presumably because he doesn't want to point out to these 'hard hitting reporters' how fucking abundantly moronic they are--- in a public setting)
