Ever noticed how these things only come out when a politician says or does the "wrong thing" - something the PTB dont like?

So who wielded the knife this time? One of the civil servants whose job is about to be axed under the cuts announced by David Laws? The bankers again - I say again because the original expenses scandal followed suspiciously on from tough government talk about regulation?

Or - a little outside the box - the grandees of the Tory party sending a message to David Cameron that he shouldnt fuck with them, their party or their precious 1922 committee by attempting to move the Conservatives left of fascism?

I think the clock's ticking on this coalition thing already. The notion that there's elements of the Tories who think that Cameron's too far to the left after he's just had his fawning little bitch explain that the Libdems are abandoning everything they've ever claimed to stand for to remain in Cameron's government, is hilarious.

(I actually rather like the 1922 committee, though: if Labour had something like that they could have got rid of Blair after he got us into Bush's war in 2003 and put somebody vaguely credible in charge of the party. Ken Livingstone, maybe.)

None of the above.

The Tories want control...they have the Lib Dems in the way....invite them in...and then discredit them.

There's no way in this world that the Tories will ascquiese to liberal ideals...that is a given....no matter the public niceities......they need them for power...and then they need to give them a clip to marginalise them.

Hopefully this is a wake up call for the Lib Dems......the Tories have been through all of this countless times....seasoned campaigners......and they ain't playing happy families unless they get their way....just like Labour want their way...or any party aspiring to power.  But Clegg and associates are new to all of this and I think they believed the Tories....they believed it was all pals.......you have to laugh really....the Tories are the people who think there is only one England...and it ain't a liberal England.

In the long term it'll help the Lib Dems....they now know what they're up against.......though I would say that if they didn't know before then they shouldn't be let anywhere near an ice cream  let alone government.

Actually I can't read all that because there would be a gallon of tears on the floor. But I ask this, why did he quit ?

Fukit Man, you only live once.

I had a wry smile reading this E, especially as you always speak so highly of the Daily Mail. I also wondered where the use of the word Fascism comes in, It hardly describes main stream conservatism. But hey, whats in a name, right ?

As for the premise about Laws, it was hardly a secret regards his expenses arrangement. The sum was also spread over eight years, small change to a millionaire. I think some of the media are hoping it is a sign split in the coalition. I just see it as hard luck on David Laws with the only losers being the taxpayers. Laws made his name in banking and in my view was the right man for the job.

LadyEllen -> RE: dont mess with the PTB (5/31/2010 3:49:23 AM)

The story is about Laws PS, no doubt he had to step down and that its a shame - the thread meanwhile is about whether anyone else detects a pattern here? Politican says or does something that harms certain interests - full colour front page expose (continued on page 5) ensues.

No comment on the use of the word fascism then E ?  Whatever the story is or isnt, my questions were about your post. You always seem to be telling me that you cant believe whats printed in the Daily Mail, yet here you are using it as an example.

This could just as easily been leaked to the press by someone who knows Laws and wanted to make some money. I also suspect that the fact he is gay was already well known within the media, infact I would bank on it.
