The latter are vastly overrated. The former are good to excellent, but it is notable that their stage show is better than the music.

And I'm a metal head.

99 Luftballon was perfect. Even for a pop song.

Why is it I though the song was a nuke protest song?

?

LillyoftheVally -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/30/2010 4:27:07 AM)

They all seemed more out of tune than usual this year, I didn't like he german song much I didn't like the german singer much, I didn't like the german singers voice much.

I liked portugal, I thought england was less than great but shouldnt have been last, I thought it was less camp than it normally is, I thought the interview with graham nortan was terrible, I miss wogan, I liked the dancing bit, it made me grin

I hate it that i have to agree with you completely in that respect :o(

calamitysandra -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/30/2010 9:03:35 AM)

I am not a big fan of the German song. Her accent annoys me to no end. Plus, Stefan Raab, the guy who "made" her, is going to have an even bigger head now.

I liked the Spanish contribution.

I want to say 'but what about Tokio Hotel?!' but even I can't keep a straight face for that long.

Tokio Hotel sucks, but Rammstein is a great band.
Also, I agree that 99 Lufballons is a great song, but definitely not "the only song from post-war Germany that has any merit"

No doubt about that...but whilst I don't like her song at all it is at least a lil bit nicer than Raab's own song at the eurovision in 2000 where again, that crap managed to get up to the 5th place [8|] Makes me wonder what kinda people are voting, actually...[8|]

That one was from the year 2000...he was the producer or so from the winning song this year...

calamitysandra -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/30/2010 11:41:05 AM)

To be honest, Wadde hadde dude da amused me. He was trying to point out how ridiculous the whole contest had gotten.

Phoenixpower -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/30/2010 12:01:03 PM)

not quite sure about that, considering his kind of humour...however between those two I do prefer the one from lena, even when I would have understood if we would have been the last ones with that song...

pahunkboy -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/30/2010 12:11:23 PM)

I love to see dancing.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/30/2010 1:26:47 PM)

Woohoo I totally missed it for another year, hopefully I can be completely oblivious to the date that this nonsense is taking place next year as well.

I voted for my neighbor, he has the best voice ever.

Also no Iraq war backlash this year so I expect the rest of Europe will see us as better singer/songwriters.[:D]

LadyEllen -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/31/2010 4:38:01 AM)

We came last - undeservedly so in my opinion; not that the song should have made it out of the lower half of the league but honestly some of the others were absolutely dreadful.

Still, not to worry. Its no mystery we dont win really when the music industry here is so large, powerful and successful on a world wide basis - any song and any singer or band with any merit isnt going to get plugged through the ESC, especially with "Britain's Got Pop Idol Talent" et al around to add to that factor.

I wonder what should happen if one of our top bands entered - lets say Muse for the sake of a name to throw out - if that didnt beat the brains out of all comers then something would be very wrong indeed.

pahunkboy -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/31/2010 4:44:26 AM)

IMO- those types of competition is staged. (for the most part)

Recall Payola-

Same thing.

They might end up in the tail of the competition and be humiliated. Most good musicians avoid the ESF like the plague - and right they are.

I stopped watching that corrupt and boring contest at least five or ten years ago, or more.

LillyoftheVally -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/31/2010 4:56:07 AM)

Yeah I think it is dangerous for big bands to enter because of the reputation and the fact that they would imo come fairly low down due to the way the voting always goes

I think if any band did decide to give it a bash it would have to be one that is pretty tongue in cheek, for some reason I am thinking something like the feeling, a great band able to laugh at itself.

Sorta like how Music TV at one time was actually music.  Today nothing but lame reality shows, and other nonsense.

Tho I do like nice ponies.

LadyEllen -> RE: Eurovision 2010 (5/31/2010 5:33:58 AM)

Rule - the whole point of the ESC is that its ridiculous, replete with freaks and utter nonsense. The main reason we watch it is to see the freak show - we run scoring in house here on the top 5 acts and the top 5 freaks (did you see the Serbian entry?). And then to demonstrate our psychic powers when we are able to accurately predict who votes 8,10 or 12 points to whom.

Its not to be taken seriously. If it were a serious song contest the UK should have won every year since 1962 and by now should be so far ahead that the contest should not be worth holding. The UK simply is the giant of Europe when it comes to modern music.
