Folks, we have had over a page of thread drift here, mainly between 3 people. It appears that although the site has attempted to intervene as little as possible to lets threads drift how they might, that some on the site have taken it to heart to derail and make jokes no matter what the thread is about or where it is located. We will be tightening down a bit, so that EVERYONE on the boards can have fun;not only those that are joking around, but those interested in serous discussion. Fair warning to everyone should they start seeing an increase of golden letters. I urge everyone to start following TOS and the forum guidelines quite a bit more closely. If not, we are gonna be closer than I'm betting you would want to be.

(Can we still call people "assholes," and tell them to fuck off, from time to time?)

So it is 22 shootings in 24 hours. Got it. I saw 32, plus six stabbings, for a weekend in Chicago a couple years back, and thought this number was for the whole weekend.

Concealed carry laws will stop your crime rate in it's tracks.

As far as I can see no form of gun control is actually legal in the US...."shall not be infringed" seems pretty unequivocal to me.

It goes a bit deeper than that, Arpig. The lawyers live their lives counting the angels on the head of a comma.

eyesopened -> RE: Gun Control. (5/31/2010 6:13:45 AM)

My daughter had to take one of my grandsons to the doctor.  While she was there, a little boy about age 3 was showing interest in another boy of the same age.  Boy #1 pushed Boy#2.  Boy#2's mother said "Hit him!  You don't let anyone push you like that!  Now hit that boy!"

On a recent episode of The First 48, a 13 year old boy gets into a shouting match with another boy at school.  The boy goes to the 13-year-old's apartment after school and continues the argument when 13's older brother comes outside to break up the shouting by pushing the boy away from 13 and sends him home.  Boy goes home and tells his mother.  Mother comes back to 13's apartment with her boyfriend and another man and the other man shoots the older brother and then shoots and kills 13's mother.  The mother considered it justified because 13's older brother put his hands on her son.

These are true stories and just a small taste of what the real problem is.  Doesn't matter if it's guns, knives, or stones, when voilence is seen as "cool" and as a display of pride or strength or whatever it is the parent is projecting onto their children, the violence will continue.  Violence does not have to be a natural part of poverty.  Nor does it need to be excused because of poverty.

ShoreBound149 -> RE: Gun Control. (5/31/2010 9:55:28 AM)

Most of the gun violence that I have knowledge of can somehow, someway be tied back to drugs.

There are 25,000 - 30,000 deaths where a gun was used in the US annually. 15,000 - 18,000 of those are suicides.

If people stopped using illegal drugs and killing themselves, there would be no gun control conversation.

Problem solved.

(this might be my dumbest post yet)

It's early, there is still time.

I agree with Rich. I want concealed carry. They have a high closure rate on homicide here.

Knowing they will find the guy who killed, doesn't bring me a lot of peace.

Termyn8or -> RE: Gun Control. (5/31/2010 11:09:14 AM)

FR

My position is probably well known on this subject.

I am doing an experiment like jlf did a couple years ago. I have left my guns alone and will measure just hoe fast they are moving, because they are moving so slowly that I can't even measure how far in over a month. They seem to be quite stationary when not disturbed.

If people really can't trust themselves enough to own a gun, well, I don't have a boat. But when some MF comes to shoot you and I happen to be there and shoot him first, you either change your mind or kill yourself, deal ?

Things will continue to get worse in Chicago until the people there demand or *take* their rights back.

I wonder how the crime rate is going in D.C.?

Level -> RE: Gun Control. (5/31/2010 12:44:15 PM)

I'm glad I can have a gun; if Joe Dick breaks in my house, Joe is going to die. If I see Joe raping someone, Joe is going to die.

Lots of Joes in this world; lots of killing needing to be done *grimaces like Eastwood*

Silly Jefff...guns don't kill people. People living in abject poverty stacked on top of each other 10 to a cage like animals, without hope for escape or a better future kill people.

right on

heartcream -> RE: Gun Control. (5/31/2010 4:24:30 PM)

Jeffffffffffff guns suck ass.

I actually can follow along a thread when it swings all over. I dont get the big deal, seriously, people cant contribute to a thread unless it stays on topic? This sounds messed up to me. Seriously people you cant keep up if someone throws in other stuff on a freak flag site?

VideoAdminAlpha -> RE: Gun Control. (5/31/2010 9:26:26 PM)

It's a big deal, because, unlike you, there are many others that are tired of those posts, possibly like this one, that intentionally thread jack. It is against the printed guidelines also, so if you have further problems, feel free th start a thread where you may talk about this ad nauseam and all is allowed. Intentionally go against what has been put out by the admin here however, you take your chances. If you have any further questions/complaints/gripes/whines about this subject, either start a thread or write me or anyone you wish personally and privately. I wouldn't suggest doing it in this manner again.

cloudboy -> RE: Gun Control. (5/31/2010 10:19:48 PM)

The US is not particularly good at banning anything. But consequences do attach for getting caught. Criminals tend not to worry about consequences. So, I would imagine most of the gun related deaths in Chicago are in the criminal and drug trades. If one stays out of those areas, one is not likely to be harmed by a gun.

The situation in Chicago also reflects how a municipality's gun laws are probably as strong as the US's weakest link. What's to stop anyone who wants a gun from buying it easy somewhere else in the US and bringing it to the windy city?
