Question to group- being that this population was so vulnerable- do you think a fake drill is a good idea?   What about protocol?   THIS is YOUR govt!!

===================
At the St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, Nevada this past Monday, a very unusual and terrifying scene took place that left nearly all its participants in shock — both out of fear and genuine bewilderment as to how safety planners could be so stupid.

That’s because last Monday, an off-duty police officer stormed into the hospital’s Sienna campus, where the most sick patients are cared for, and pointed a gun at staff. He then ordered as many as 10 nurses down a hallway and into a room, according to a local report. It all turned out to be a “safety” drill gone horribly wrong.

Oh, good, another prison planet sourced story.

pahunkboy -> RE: Off-duty cop pretended to be terrorist gunman in hospital’s unannounced ’safety’ drill (5/31/2010 6:24:58 AM)

So then "you" agree that this drill was appropriate?

DarkSteven -> RE: Off-duty cop pretended to be terrorist gunman in hospital’s unannounced ’safety’ drill (5/31/2010 6:32:51 AM)

Not at all, and I never said anything to imply that.  I implied that prison planet is a loony source of biased articles that I doubt are true.  I know, it will claim that it prints the articles that the MSM is afraid to print...

pahunkboy -> RE: Off-duty cop pretended to be terrorist gunman in hospital’s unannounced ’safety’ drill (5/31/2010 6:34:56 AM)

It is this kind of thinking that lead up to TERRORIZING poor sickly hospital patients.

DarkSteven -> RE: Off-duty cop pretended to be terrorist gunman in hospital’s unannounced ’safety’ drill (5/31/2010 6:36:07 AM)

Reread my post.  I doubt it's a true article.  if it's not true, then there was no terrorization.  Period.

Denial.    Amazing.   Wow.

--  a bad source?   Astounding.

Andy North, director of public policy and external affairs for the hospital, apologized for any distress caused by the incident. There’s been an “ongoing effort to try and make (emergency preparedness drills) as realistic as possible,” he said, but the goal is not to scare or harm anyone./snip

hunky, I owe you an apology.  The LV Sun is a legit news source, and I believe it.  Plus the story was so preposterous that I couldn't buy it without an MSM source.

I actually think that there could be merit in such an exercise IF the patients were replaced with mannequins and the staff was notified.  Otherwise, it's insanely stupid and the hospital was lucky no patients had a heart attack., They're gonna get sued.

pahunkboy -> RE: Off-duty cop pretended to be terrorist gunman in hospital’s unannounced ’safety’ drill (5/31/2010 7:34:40 AM)

Thank you Steven.

I appreciate it.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Off-duty cop pretended to be terrorist gunman in hospital’s unannounced ’safety’ drill (5/31/2010 7:39:42 AM)

It is actually mandated that hospitals have fire and safety drills.

Sounds to me sort of like when the baseball association hired that fat comedian to sing the national anthem and were astonished and offended when she grabbed her crotch during it. A cop is going to take and run with anything like a "terrorist safety drill". Why be surprised when it happens?

Wish we would have a safety drill like this at our hospital! [:D]

How did we get the Government into this?  Unless you have something else it reads that the hospital hired an off duty cop and staged this.

Bad idea, yes.  But what does that have to do with the Government?

Govt regulates hospitals.   Tons of regs.

And I'll bet that the hospital violated a bunch of them.  Not the government's fault.

My guess is that some dimwit administrator found that the drill was overdue and just threw one together without doing any notification whatsoever.

Certainly questions need to be asked.  Hippocratic oath- "do no harm".

DomKen -> RE: Off-duty cop pretended to be terrorist gunman in hospital’s unannounced ’safety’ drill (5/31/2010 8:10:12 AM)

People who specialize in emergency preparedness would tell you drills which are known to be drills are useless. Drills which are as realistic as possible are what teaches both the emergency plan and procedures and identifies those people who can lead in crisis situations.

In this case some nurses got frightened for a few minutes. The reports indicate patients were not involved and the whole incident seems to be at worst a little too real for someones comfort. You can be sure if I was a hospital administrator my staff would be doing drils at least that realistic.

One might logically ask what would have happened if some "blue hair" had pulled out a .25 cal. purse gun and ventilated the this ignorant fool playing "mr badguy?

kiwisub12 -> RE: Off-duty cop pretended to be terrorist gunman in hospital’s unannounced ’safety’ drill (5/31/2010 10:34:39 AM)

Oh no that would never happen because there is sure to be a sign on the front door that says "no hand guns allowed ". [8|] [:D]

pahunkboy -> RE: Off-duty cop pretended to be terrorist gunman in hospital’s unannounced ’safety’ drill (5/31/2010 10:35:59 AM)

I thought the sign said no cell phones.
