aurora31 -> First lifestyle meeting (4/9/2006 7:41:53 PM)

I just attended my first lifestlye meeting this weekend. I had to travel 3 1/2 hrs to do it but it was well worth it. I wish I had done it long before. Not only did I get to meet some very intresting people but I also got to see a demo on flogging. I would like to encourage all those out there who have held back on getting out and going to lifestyle events of any type due to fear and shyness or distance or what ever else may be the reason, to get out there. It has been one of the most positive experiances for me so far in my journy. I will be attending BMSL in two weeks and I can not wait for I know it will be a eye opening and great learning opertunity.

I would love to hear of others experiances with going to their first event. And for those who still haven't made it to one tell us what is holding you back.

We'll see ya in St. Louie!  I'm sure you'll have a blast and walk around most of the weekend with your jaw dragging on the floor.  This will be our 3rd year at Beat Me.  I'm so excited!

My first event was a small, semi-local Munch that we drove 45 minutes to go to.  I applaud your conviction and courage for driving that far.  Go you!  Anyways...I was really nervous, and didn't really say much, but felt good about it afterwards.  Been friends with that same group ever since.  Best thing I ever did for myself.

Anyone else?

The first one i went to was with a freind that was a member. I had to go to a munch the night before and was amazed at how welcoming and open these people were. The next night i went to a dungeon party and was amazed that all these people were doing the things that i had only been dreaming about....WOW, what an eye opening experience. Well that was several years ago, i am now a member of several lifestyle groups and a regular attendee of one of the local dungeons with my Master, and i don't see myself quitting this life any time soon.

Congratulations! That first step is the most important one. Maybe I will see both you and TheShadows in BMSL in 2 weeks also. :) Well do I remember my first munch a couple of years ago. lol I arrived, sat in the parking lot for about 10 minutes, told myself that if I didnt go inside I would seriously come to regret it, and then I did it. Of course I had to first go to the bar inside the restraunt and get me something to drink. But once I did, then I was greeted like an old friend and made to feel more welcome there than I am at my family reunions. Now, like rawney62, I am active in several local groups and even running for a board position in one of them. And I wouldnt change a single thing about any of it.

aaaaaawww finally... been encouraging you here and there for months now.... guess I should of been more direct and told you to go  *G*  I am happy for auroa... "You will reach your dreams!"  I am confident of that... just keep putting one foot in front of the other!  Great work! proud of ya.

Now just a little grounding... don't let this get away from you.... To many get out and are swept away by the experience and they are like a run-away train going down hill.  Keep your senses about you!  Just like I know you can.

oh yeah.. practice your screaming too *G*

I will never forget the first demo I saw. It was a slave being suspended by hooks through their skin. I recall thinking..."Ogod I could never submit to that level." I was in awe yet it made me feel bad that I could never contemplate doing something like that...it made me feel like an inferior slave....funny how your thoughts change over time...to see that again now I wouldn't be judging play like that up against my own level of submission, I would view it now in the same category as someone who likes extreme sports and nothing to do with submission/slavery at all.

Wonderful insight.  What we do isn't a hierarchy; it's more like a bunch of little boxes set on a table.  The contents are different but one is neither higher nor lower than any other.

Good way to put it [:)]

Nice thread thanks!

My first time out was with a friend who practically had to drag me inside.  Nice quiet munch, only about 50 people.  Never met so many welcoming people in my life.  Well that was the beginning and quite a long time ago..... Oh and to others.......  See You in St Louis!!!!!  Will be my second time going and cannot wait!

If you don't watch out ... people are going to start thinking you know what you are talking about. [;)]

ohhhhhh I am not so sure.... no box is higher or lower than any others... but dang... my box is ordinary black and others have these pretty colors and things on them.  why do I think I got stuck with Pandora's Box.?

denika -> RE: First lifestyle meeting (4/10/2006 4:24:35 PM)

I was invited out by a couple I had never met before after I had made a post about Alberta being a BDSM wasteland (silly me). After some serious nail biting and a friend who knew where I was, I said yes.  I didn't know anyone there and yet everyone I was introduced to made me feel welcome and definatly cut down on the fear factor for walking into the unknown. I had posted earier on one of the  alberta sites asking for any insight on what to expect, the most common  peice of advice was not to set my expectations too high, I didn't have a problem there. I had never been  to a munch let alone a play party so I just went with an open mind and I wasn't disapointed.
I'm really glad to hear you had an equally great experience, as long as you go in with eyes open and don't compramise your core values, you are in for a wonderful and great adventure that just gets better. *s*
