ORIGINAL: ThatDamnedPanda With all the ignorant, condescending, bigoted insults about community organizers in this thread, does anybody seriously expect that anyone who's familiar with the topic would actually waste their time giving a serious answer to any of the so called "questions?" You guys want to have fun ridiculing something about which you have not got the first fucking clue, go ahead and have your fun. But at least have the balls to own up to what you're doing, and stop making yourselves look so gutless by pretending you're really asking serious questions. As a real question. . . where is the bigotry? I really do not see it and this is the second time that I have seen it. You truly don't see the bigotry in these examples? quote:
Do they wake them up to be sure they're "at the protest on time?" quote:
By definition wouldn't they have to "organize" people in "poor" communities to think that if they act in a certain way that they'll get ..."more money" somehow? quote:
"C'mon, STEP BACK people! Community activist comming through!" "Is he a lawyer too?" "Nah, he just thinks he is, went to one of those schools for troubled youth." quote:
Mother; So Johnny, what do you want to be when you grow up, a Fireman, Cop, Cowboy?" Johnny; "I want to be a COMMUNITY ACTIVIST!" Father; "I knew it! He's a fuckin' QUEER!" Panda, so where's the "bigotry" in those statements? Do we see "community organizers" in wealthy neighborhoods knocking on doors? What if they knocked on John "French" Kerry's door, do you really think they'd get a check from HIM? They wouldn't make it to his front door, his security people would grab them! And his neighbors wouldn't be home, those people usually work for a living. They're rarely there, they could be anywhere in the world. You don't get any money by knocking on doors in wealthy neighborhoods, unless you're lucky enough to run into one of the butlers or maids at the nearby market who feels sorry for you! Is there some kind of "code" or something, you know it's a "poor neighborhood" but you can't actually *say* it's a poor neighborhood? I mean there must be some kind of fuckin' manual that the anal-retentives hand out to the plebians, right? "What you can say and what you can't fuckin' say" something like that? You know, like a "guide" or something? "Oh, and one important point not to fuckin' forget, never step on a crack on a sidewalk in a "poor neighborhood" as those people can be real fuckin' suspicious!" Panda, and why do you think community organizers *always* go to "poor neighborhoods; because those people are *HOME!* A lot of them don't work, they're on some kind of "govt. assistance!" They haven't worked in DECADES! And they always go in the afternoons when they're just waking up! Have you ever seen a community organizer at a Dunkin Donuts at 0900 "getting ready for the day?" Of course not! They don't even roll out till 11. It's like those bogus "polls" and stuff that they always take at colleges and unis, they have a *captive audience.* Noone thinks like a 19 year old college kid! Those "polls" are absolutely worthless! "Who do you want to see become president?" "Ahh,.... AC/DC?" They go to those places because people are HOME! They had another protest in Arizona and Yahoo said that they "bussed people in." If you were "bussing people in" from L.A. say you'd have to pay them right? That's what, eight, ten hours on the bus one-way, then they'd have to put them up in a hotel for the night and feed them and see to their needs right? That's two days and people aren't going to do all that plus protest in the hot sun all day for no moolah right? Go to a "poor neighborhood" and try to tell people your're going to take them to protest in Arizona in the hot sun all day but you're not going to pay them! They'd be throwing fortified wine bottles and stolen t.v.s at you! They're getting *paid* to sit on the front porch and drink a "40 oz" and you want to make them "w,...w,...w,..work,....for................ *nothing?* And just who's going to organise all that shit, get them there to the buses on time, (Man, I'm hungover like a motherfucker!" "Shake it out Charlie you're goin'!" "Now get on the bus and shut up, it's "for the cause!) lead them in, "This land is your land....." on the bus with them, get them checked into their hotels, back on the bus the next morning for "the protest", hoping not too many of them got high or drunk and got arrested the night before, back to L.A. safely late that night or early the next morning with no O.D.s and break up any fights and hand out their pay envelopes when they arrive home in L.A ? "Community Organizers" of course! They're like the "Union Muscle guys." "Everything has to run "smooth" or fuckin' else!" And you don't want the "else!" You're not talking about a group of M.D.s and Lawyers here. They don't ride on the bus! You're talking a LOT of money there for meals, hotels, bus rentals etc, etc for *thousands* of people! Where's all that money comming from? Who's paying a couple hundred community organizers to babysit all those people? Doing things like that is *not* a part time job, there are* thousands of details* to take care of for *weeks* in advance! It's like working on a political campaign, paper everywhere, phones ringing off the hook, people and venders needing to be paid, having to raise money, make appointments, travel arangements, it's a madhouse! You need a LOT of "boots on the ground" to do things like that! These are some of the things they don't teach you at Harvard business school! "Yeah man, boycott Arizona!" "Hey! I wonder how much this hotel room in downtown Phoenix costs a night?"
