Amazing. A nun sanctions an abortion to save the life of a mother of 4 and is excommunicated for "her evil act". Clearly her death and the orphaning of 4 kids should be the righteous way to deal.

Meanwhile at least thousands of paedophiles worldwide are protected by the church.

How much longer do we put up with this vile and perverse foreign cult?

This is ridiculous. I'm pro-life and would have made the decision she did. If I could spell unconscionable I'd say that's what it is. (but I can't!)

I'm in the middle blushes - I see abortion as a necessary evil in some circumstances such as this, with the caveat that its not really my business to know someone's circumstances and its far better done in a clinical setting than up some back alley.

What I simply dont get is how this nun could possibly be treated like this and it not occur to the church that it might not have been such a great idea given the obvious misogyny in their approach that theyd otherwise prefer to profess enlightenment to the contrary about.

All part of the catholic politics, excommunicate a nobody and protect a somebody. I remember when there was calls for the excommunication of a certain terrorist group following a certain atrocity, but the Vatican had cloth ears on that one.

So let me see if I get this right. The "murder of an innocent" is unconscionable.... but the murder (by medical neglect) of the mother is acceptable.

Gotcha.

Reason #1256989876287528548673286 I can not fathom why people stick with the Church.

I have a difficult time trying to understand the Roman church's politics.  I don't have a problem with a group wanting to keep traditions or to maintain a continuity of message.  But in cases like this, they do neither.  One thing is very clear, the Roman chuch is very, very sexist.  They don't have a biblical precedent for disallowing females to become priests yet they hold fast this "tradition" which actually began with the writing of the Didascalia and the Apostolic Constitutions around 250AD.

But I digress..  The Roman church has a long history of being quick to punish nuns.  This is nothing new.  The last pope to suggest sweeping reforms lasted a whole 33 days as pope.  I don't see the new guy doing anything to reform the church.

wow. Some things are just so wrong you don't even have words for it. My personal prayers are with this woman and her bravery in doing the right thing despite religious dogma.
