FR: Of recent- I have people who emigrated here offering the info that they are here legally. I find that- unfortunate that they feel compelled to disclose that. I mean- I am glad they came properly- I think it is sad that they feel uncomfortable to the point of verbalizing this- -- almost like your verbal papers please. When someone is leaving others alone- just living- it is sad that -- this could turn ugly.

First of all, illegals are what give us such cheap "stoop crops", landscaping, meat (many meatpacking companies use illegal immigrants). I bet there would be howls about the increased cost of food if illegals were kicked out. I'm willing to pay the increased costs. Why racist? Might depend on who's making the argument. If they're describing them using epithets, declaring them immoral scum of the earth lusting for our women (like back in the days of the marijuana scares), yeah, I'd call that racist.

There have been a fair few comments about hispanics breeding like vermin because they're all catholic, iirc. It's a bit depressing to see people using arguments that went out in the '50s with a straight face.

They can, but your claim that anyone who reads them agrees with every story they print is baseless. The whole problem is there is very little choice in the UK press, they are either left or right leaning. That or just to bulky to fit in my lunchbox. [;)]

Well it certainly isn't because they have a rational argument against illegal immigration its because they couple illegal immigration with a race or in the UK a religion its because they dont spot the difference between illegal and legal and its because they scream 'they are stealing all our jobs; while sitting on their arses eating crisps and drinking beer

Where did I say anything of the sort politesub??? If you are going to go off into nonsense land, I have no desire to talk to you. I said the Political Left in America (which is not the same as the Political left in Europe or the UK, which is why I qualified it with "American Left", screams racism as a fallback position, and has done so regularly for the past 25 years (at least). That has no relation to what the Left (or anyone in Europe or the UK) thinks or does. It also in no way precludes anyone else (right wing or otherwise) from calling out racism. And I in no way called anyone a Socialist or a Pinko . This is a standard tactic of the American Left. Marini seemed confused as to why people that agree with her (a black woman) are being called racist in such vehement terms. To me it is very similar to the way Kittensol and domken act when Isreal gets criticised.

It seems like a standard tactic (of both the american Left and you) to ask about nonsense questions....... Where did I ever say that cries fo Racism form the Left is never warranted? It is quite supportive of my point, that you have to keep making up things to attack it..... OK, Marini (and everyone who opposes illegal immigration) is a racist in your view....

IMO the difference between Mexican illegal immigration and other nationalities is the fact that only Mexicans are able to illegally enter the US...sin papeles, as it were. If this were really a "racial" issue, there would be just as much furor over Africans and Asians who immigrate here illegally in the same way the Eastern Europeans do - overstaying a tourist or student visa. The difference between all those people and Mexican illegal immigrants is that anyone immigrating from overseas is, in some form or another, documented. Mexico shares a border with the US and the sheer number of Mexican illegal immigrants drives home the point that that border is not secure. So the issue is twofold, not only are they immigrating illegally, they are able to enter the US illegally, and that takes it to another level over the rest of the immigrants, black, white, whatever, who enter the US legally then stay illegally.
