The reason for this thread is that this area of the Forum is called "Politics and Religion," but from my survey of the actual subjects under discussion, it is entirely politics. There is also a personal reason for introducing this--not only am I a lifelong political activist and a long-time communicant in the Wiccan religion (since 1984), but the one informs the other. If politics is caring about others beyond one's self and groups one identifies with, and religion (or spirituality, if you prefer that term) is a kind of quest and opening-upon that invites greater connection with the universe, then it seems to me there is a natural resonance between the two. A greater openness to empathy, complete listening, the urge to help and to heal, can flow from both political and spiritual wellsprings. Arguably, they originate from within the same subterranean reserve, unseen but felt by human beings; in any case, both impulses lead toward greater involvement with the world, exceeding the bounds of self. Rather than detail my own political activities and history or involvement with and practice of Wicca, I will stop here. If this is a topic that is of any appeal to others, then there will be ample opportunity to comment further. Peace and Liberation. Blessed Be.
