ORIGINAL: TheHeretic "You know, this is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs where he lifts up his shirt so they can see the gun in his pants." Simple question. Is the above statement racist or not? Hugely funny. I love Bill Maher, and one sentence out of the context of the monologue ..... why? Seems a bit misleading. Anyway it was said by Bill Maher during a rant against BP, and as a liberal and an Obama supporter, I thought it was fucking funny, and appropriate. Bill Maher also said that Obama could black it up just a little, like maybe put a shark tank in the White House. Context is important, but so is the source. Somehow, it would be less funny if Beck or Limbaugh said it, even if the "racist" accusation was debatable. Yes I am aware, I saw that as well, I just don't equate Bill Maher with Glenn Beck. Beck has a show on Faux Noise where he pretends to be a journalist. Maher is a political satirist, not a writer for The National Review. Beck and Limbaugh have, in actuality, said far more racist comments and meant them. Therein lies the rub.
