NO, sometimes you pick one just to try and pretend that your not.

Like Michael Steele, Colin Powell, Condileeza Rice & Clarence Thomas?

Yes, and I really would have left Michael Steele out of that list.

He's the head of the RNC, why the fuck would I leave him off the list?

Will those of you who are sick of oil start walking instead of driving you cars or taking a bus. ?

Are we willing to make small sacrifices to live a life using less petroleum?

In a word, yes.

Many of us adjust our thermostats to use less electricity, drive small fuel efficient cars, avoid plastic where we can, and so on.

Its not really a big deal- anyone reading this post could easily cut their fossil fuel consumption by 10% without altering their lifestyle much at all.

The oils spill that is happening now is the result of our collective choices- there is nothing natural or unavoidable about it.

We could prevent the next one, if we wanted to.

................. Accidents happen. This one was unfortunate but it will be cleaned up.

I'd not heard that a full investigation of the cause had yet been concluded?

What I had heard is that BP cut corners and were permitted to do so by a regulatory regime so lax as to be worthless and operated by people some of whom may have colluded with BP in not enforcing what little regulation there was.

Whatever the cause may have been we might reasonably conclude from this that the ongoing spill is far from "unfortunate" but rather the product of regulatory and operational negligence.
