Brain -> Nikki Haley Sex Scandal, and Why One Feminist Supports Her (6/4/2010 9:35:22 PM)

FTA:

I’m rooting for Haley. I want her to survive this sex scandal and go on to run a really strong campaign.

Two South Carolina political operatives have now claimed to have had affairs with Haley, a state legislator and married mother of two who denies the allegations.

As charges of a second affair dog South Carolina GOP candidate Nikki Haley, Dana Goldstein argues it's time to drop the double-standard—and judge women on their achievements, not their sex lives.

I bet when she wins the nomination the accusations will dry up.
I'm leaning strongly towards voting for her on tuesday.

Brain -> RE: Nikki Haley Sex Scandal, and Why One Feminist Supports Her (6/4/2010 10:35:35 PM)

I'd almost feel sorry for her except she's a hypocrite. If she hadn't run on a squeaky clean image, I'd view her indiscretions as any other horn-dog politician.

tazzygirl -> RE: Nikki Haley Sex Scandal, and Why One Feminist Supports Her (6/5/2010 12:09:57 AM)

Are you so sure the accusations are true, Brain?

Elisabella -> RE: Nikki Haley Sex Scandal, and Why One Feminist Supports Her (6/5/2010 1:17:14 AM)

So like even if her career is destroyed because of this, it's still feminist. She'll just be the "equal" of men like Edwards, Spitzer and Giuliani, instead of Clinton and Sanford.

Equality = her PR team is going to have to work overtime for this and even then it still might not be enough. Same as any guy.

SC= inbred, un educable racist scum/// race baiting pandering scumbag politics

A GOP state senator called front-runner Nikki Haley, the only woman in the race and a daughter of Indian immigrants, a "raghead" on a political talk show Thursday night.

"We already got one raghead in the White House," John M. "Jake" Knotts Jr. said on the Internet talk show "Pub Politics," according to the State newspaper. "We don't need another in the governor's mansion."

Knotts, a supporter of one of Haley's opponents, later apologized and said his comment was made in jest.

After former Alaska governor Sarah Palin (R) visited the Palmetto State to endorse Haley a few weeks ago, the state lawmaker rocketed in the polls to a sizable lead in the four-candidate race. Since then, her opponents and their allies have attacked her character relentlessly. Voters will go to the polls Tuesday.

So what you are saying is that it took you an hour to figure out she's a Republican?

domiguy -> RE: Nikki Haley Sex Scandal, and Why One Feminist Supports Her (6/5/2010 4:57:23 AM)

Remember this is the party that touts family values that detests homos and called Clinton a hypocrite for lying about a private relationship.

She is denying the allegations just like Clinton. A true politician.....Remember popeye, Clinton lied "I did not have sex with that woman." Didn't you recently quote that? It seems when it's GOP candidate Nikki Haley it suddenly doesn't seem to bother you that she might be a liar.

You got to love it when a cunt like Nikki Haley who really digs family values, except when her pussy gets really wet. Is shown to be just another cocksucker.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20005874-503544.html

The day after a South Carolina blogger alleged he had an extramarital affair with GOP gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley, the up-and-coming politician is out with a new campaign ad that emphasizes her "pro-family" conservative values and her alliance with former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

"I am a woman that understands that through the grace of God, all things are possible," Haley says in the ad, which features a constant track of applause in the background. "It's no longer about electing Republicans, it's about electing conservatives."

Palin is featured in the ad, lauding Haley as "a strong, pro-family, pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, pro-development, conservative reformer."

I love this part.....Palin is featured in the ad, lauding Haley as "a strong, pro-family, pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, pro-development, conservative reformer. That loves cock. Especially when those cocks are not attached to her husband"

Please let the cunt burn.

tazzygirl -> RE: Nikki Haley Sex Scandal, and Why One Feminist Supports Her (6/5/2010 5:43:36 AM)

So Haley has denied the allegations, stating she has always been faithful to her husband. Neither man has offered proof of an affair. Her opponent in the race is demanding a lie detector test

quote:

The "raghead" remark seemed like an inevitable grace note in the gubernatorial primary. Knotts is supporting South Carolina Lieutenant Gov. Andre Bauer's candidacy, and this week a campaign consultant for Bauer named Larry Marchant came forward to claim he had a "one-night stand" with Haley — a married mother of two — at a school-choice conference in 2008. That allegation came just a week after Will Folks, a right-wing blogger and former campaign worker for Haley, claimed to have engaged in an "inappropriate physical relationship" with her.

Haley has categorically denied the charges and says she has been "100 percent faithful" to her husband. Bauer, who fired Marchant and says he has had nothing to do with the charges of infidelity, has chosen a curious approach to staying out of the fray: He's demanding that Haley take a lie-detector test to prove that she never cheated on her husband. Haley, meanwhile, has pledged that if she's elected, she will resign if proof ever comes out that she did sleep with Folks or Marchant.

Neither Marchant nor Folks has come forward with proof of their claims, though Folks has released phone records showing that he frequently spoke to Haley on the phone late at night and claims to have seen a photo, allegedly taken by a private investigator, of himself and Haley in a "compromising position."

As for Knotts, he has issued an apology for the "raghead" comment, claiming that it was "intended in jest" and that the "humorous content was lost in translation." Though the "Pub Politics" show was webcast, host Wesley Donehue, a South Carolina political consultant, Tweeted that "technical issues" with prevented Knotts' remark from being archived on the show's site, so no video of it was immediately available. But he later Tweeted that he had his own version, as yet unreleased. (To add to the insular, high-school nature of the campaign's glorious disarray, Donehue was the person Folks accused of first peddling Folks-Haley rumors to the press, allegedly prompting Folks' confession.)

Even in his apology, Knotts managed to get another underhanded dig in at Haley, whom he says "is pretending to be someone she is not." Bauer used identical language in his statement challenging her to a lie-detector test. The implication that she is, as Knotts put it, "hiding her true religion." Meanwhile, the Christian Broadcasting Network's David Brody published a story Thursday saying her emphasis on her Christian faith has evolved over the years.

Haley has thus far used the bizarre attacks to her advantage, painting herself as a victim of a corrupt political culture, and has maintained a healthy lead in the polls. The primary is Tuesday, which leaves only three more days for Haley's opponents to systematically eviscerate the myth of the Southern gentleman.

Hard to convince SC constituents she had a black baby, so this is the next best step.

Sounds like an episode of Jerry Springer where they get a group of illiterate, unemployable idiots in and stand back to watch the carnage as entertainment.

The sad part is that apparently, this lot are the best of the bunch?

DarkSteven -> RE: Nikki Haley Sex Scandal, and Why One Feminist Supports Her (6/5/2010 6:39:33 AM)

There are two possibilities.  Either her critics are telling the truth, in which case she's unfit for office.  Not because she cheated, but because of her lies.

Or they're liars, in which case this is the scummiest attack ever.

She's too nice.  This is her chance to fire out with righteous indignation, claim that this is the dirtiest trick in history and that this is the kind of thing that strong women should not have to put up with today.  And that it strikes a blow, not just to her career, but to her family as well.  Then demand that her accusers put up or it didn't happen.

I'd bang her.

This is the same state that produced Strom Thurmond who, at a fund raiser in his last election bid was behind in the polls until, as its rumored, he made a comment about not believing his SC constituents would follow a "n*****". His polling numbers rose the next day and he won the election.

FR:

I know nothing about Haley, but looked at some of the stories about her "affairs".  So far, these are the two most pertinent paragraphs in my mind:

Marchant concedes he can't prove his allegation. "We knew up front that I didn't have any evidence because you can't have any evidence on a one night affair — you don't have that."
Marchant's claim is the second leveled at Haley in as many weeks. Political blogger Will Folks said he and Haley had an "inappropriate physical relationship" in 2007. Despite dribbling out days of innuendo on his website, Folks has yet to prove his claims. He was not married at the time of the alleged relationship.

I will admit that there is often a double standard on how men and women are treated in such things.  Such an allegation does hurt a woman's public image more than a man's, and therefore is a more potent political weapon against them.

You also cannot have evidence if something didnt happen. Someone mentioned in one of the articles that there were pictures of them in a compromising position. Yet that has not been forthcoming. Another interesting spin.

I don't think Brain was very clear in his OP, however, the words, "I’m rooting for Haley. I want her to survive this sex scandal and go on to run a really strong campaign." are not his but quoted from the article he linked.

I once read that you'll know a minority's time has come when they can fuck up just as bad as white guys and folks will just go "you dumbshit", instead of "see!  that's why we shoulda never let that type in office!"
