Waterboarding pride

Former President George W. Bush said Wednesday that he has no regrets about waterboarding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, saying that, if presented with the same opportunity, he’d “do it again.”

Bush made the comments in reference to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks who was waterboarded after his capture, during a speech to the Economics Club of Grand Rapids in Michigan.

The remarks were first reported by the Grand Rapids Press.

“Yeah, we waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed,” Bush said. “I'd do it again to save lives.”

Karl Rove, the ex-president's former top political adviser, has frequently defended the use of waterboarding, telling the BBC in March that he is “proud” of the practice.

Bush also defended his decision to invade Iraq during the speech, despite the fact that weapons of mass destruction were never found.

“Getting rid of Saddam Hussein was the right thing to do, and the world is a better place without him,” the former president said.

Keep wishing, Jeff. That's who the Democrats are planning to run against this fall.

Yup, that's one hell of a productive technique. Guess that's why they used it, what, over 100 times?

Real work to be proud of.

That`s quite insightful rich. But not a difficult hunch, considering your party is now running to the radical right of bush on every policy from immigration and foreign policy, to regulatory and financial policy.

From every indication, that`s who`ll be running in the GOP slot in 2010,all be it a prettier dumber version of bush. But all the policies and world views will be the same or worse.

Question, has anyone from the GOP repudiated torture?

Not to "torture" the subject to much but, does it matter at all that the bushies used torture to force false confessions from suspects and to cover their lies leading up to the Iraq invasion?

Me too, but as they as continue to try to revise what happened it needs to be exposed.

Tell him to go back to his Dallas mansion and keep his mouth shut then.

By the way, whatever happened to the down-home country boy who just loved clearing brush at Crawford?

That sort of got pissed into the wind when it was no longer politically useful.

That's classified.

You can only find out by waterboarding him.

So essentially, an ex-US President just openly admitted to a war crime and shows absolutely no remorse, which of course is the sign of a true monster.

He should be prosecuted for war crimes, no?

We don't do that here.

We name highways, buildings, and airports in their honor.

Sometimes we even put up statues.

George W. Bush Statue

But this  one is serious:

Statue of George W. Bush

When I heard bushies say they were planning to erect a statue of bush in Iraq I understood how powerful the cool-aid was.

And this was after bush ruined our reputation by torturing Iraqis at the very prison that Saddam used to ritually eviscerated his victims.bush managed to associated our good name with one of the worst torture prisons in recent history.

Sorry if that makes me sound pissed off.

Pahunk your not going to get one. They don't like to talk abut the current policy. Just this week the familly of an alqueda leader was killed by US missle strikes in a nation we are not at war with. No trial. Just name on list, find em, kill em along with thier familes.

Targeted assasination (along with wives and kids) is now good and ok.

But Bush is a war criminal.......

Well considering that the US is not a member of the the International Criminal Court, it has no jurisdiction over US citizens. Of course, we can guess Bush didn't move forward and ratify the Rome Statute in order to behave the way they did. Of course, the UN Security Council can get involved if the US does nothing.

Oh yes, "Statue of George W. Bush - No Child Left Behind". True, he and his troops did drop quite the bombload on Iraq. Was he trying to leave no child there as well?

I've been saying for year that Bush is a war criminal and people call me an extremist. Perhaps, just perhaps, an eye or two will be opened to this reality now.

You should be pissed off. Don't apologize. I am appalled at how little people are pissed off about this.

Okay, so this teeters on the topic. I understand the moral implications of water boarding. I understand diplomacy and our standing in global politics.

But say you found out we water-boarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed... say we castrated him with no anesthetic and force fed him his own testicles.

But if no one found out about it but you, how many of you would really be upset about it at all?

I would be happy about it less about procuring information (since it can be a faulty measure) and more so out of it being some sort of consequence for his actions.

I'm just curious where the moral compass lies for you folks and what exactly about the situation you condemn.

The 4 question marks indicates frenzy.

Calm down and go back and read, then tell me, where did this accusation come from.

It comes from your being so upset at something that happened 8 years ago, yet are silent about the children killed along with thier "alleged" al queda Father who was killed with no trial, this week.....

You probably didn't hear about it.

IF you considered it, you would call Obama a war criminal also. Which we all know isn't going to happen.
