The children depicted on the mural, as we mentioned before but feel compelled to repeat, are little kids who go to the school — “a K-5 school with 380 students and the highest ethnic mix of any school in Prescott. Wall said thousands of town residents volunteered or donated to the project.”

And these children, for the past several months as this happy mural encouraging “green transportation” was being painted by local artists, have been treated to the city of Prescott’s finest citizens driving by and yelling “Nigger” and “Spic” at this school wall painted with pictures of the children who attend the school. And this has been encouraged by a city councilman, Steve Blair, who uses his local radio talk show to rile up these people and demand the mural be destroyed.

Racism isnt always so obvious though. Some want to be seen to be whiter than white ( pun intended ) and skirt around the issue making sly jibes. Posting stuff with phony indignation and a tee hee look what "someone else " posted on the net.

The thread title is pretty funny.  Considering these are the same people in AZ who you keep trying to tell us have no racist intentions in the immigration law.

The article made me shake my head in disbelief but what really gave me a wtf moment was the ad just to the right of it inviting people to join the KKK. Seriously what were they thinking accepting that ad unless of course their indignation is false.......

No...your whole country is fixated on racial issues like no other...perhaps it has to do with the incredibly painful end to slavery there, but race matters in America more than it does anywhere else. I am not saying all (or even most) Americans are racists, but racial considerations are institutionalised in the US. In no other country does the political elite want to know how people voted based on their race. I will admit here in Canada we have our own equivalent, here we want to know what language you speak...English or French (an issue of no interest in the US). You guys are racially fixated and we are linguistically fixated...not sure if either is worse, but the facts cannot be denied

Sad. Funny how this element gets left out of the story, though, when they call it the "most diverse school."

Races in Prescott:

White Non-Hispanic (88.2%)
Hispanic (8.2%)
Other race (2.8%)
American Indian (2.0%)
Two or more races (1.6%)
Black (0.5%)


Still sad.

Interesting note.Where Americans were killing and stealing their way west,the Canucks were buying and trading their way west.

There`s no romantic myths/lies about good cowboys and evil indians in Cananda.Their westward romantic stories are mostly about the Canadian Railroad.That last part is something a Canadian buddy of mine told me years ago.

Rich, despite the racial make up of the town, it doesnt mean the school cant be the most diverse on there ?  I cant see the point you are trying to make.

If you don't feel that way, I don't know why it would make you ashamed to be human.  The saddest part about it is a racist is not at all ashamed of how he feels or who he is.  I'm not even sure they consider themselves racist.  Its a mentality.  And if you find nothing wrong with expressing things like the article posted does, its your mentality about it that is preventing you from seeing it.

I moved into a predominantly white neighborhood a few years ago. The first week there, I went jogging and one of my ignorant neighbors with a confederate flag hanging from his house started yelling out "nigger get you black ass out of this nighborhood." Yeah ;I went through the whole gambit of emotions. I then decided that that old man needed more exposure to blacks. So I started jogging my black ass past his house everyday. And would smile and wave knowing he was pissed to high hell that I wasn't going anywhere.

A few years later I got a job in the payroll office of a company. I found out that I and every other black woman there was paid at a lower salary than the white women there. This was regardless of experience or education.

See, both are racism. The ignorant old guy yelling words is powerless.
The ones smiling in my face but undercutting my money had an economic inpact on my life.
Just food for thought.

I think we (the US) might only be runner-up for The Most Racist Country award. Various places in Africa come to mind where they slaughter each other with machetes on a regular basis. South Africa also comes to mind - Aparthied hasn't been gone all that long.

Not excusing our mess, but I don't think we even crack the top 10.

I get what Arpig is saying (especially the still lingering after effects of slavery), but I also see America as perhaps the greatest melting pot in the world.

Even Sweden is having some troubles:
