MsVirginiaSteele -> Turning Pro and having MANY MANY questions (4/10/2006 10:11:02 PM)

Ive been working along side of another pro Domina and she has guided me through alot.

though i do have a few questions.

I do not have a dungeon and dont have many toys that i would use on my "clients". is it fair to tell them that if they want a toy used on them, they themself need to buy it?

also, with dressing up. When you do a pro scene, do you dress up? or are you in regular dress? this part i am really really confused on.

To me the choice came naturally - I have very little interest in dungeon play, as such, so I never bothered furnishing one. I have always recieved clients in a home environment since this suited my style of playing best. In line with this I don't offer fetish sessions, other than feet, since fetish isn't what I am interested in. Should a client want a session with a domina who wear fetish I refer them to someone else. I know I am at my best when I feel comfortable, so I dress comfortably for a session - but obviously well presented.

Although you should make sure to have the most basic toys, you're not expected to have everything when you start out - but your fees have to reflect this.

Good luck!

Sophie

I wish you all the best, and just 2 things.. be natural, and be honest about your surroundings.
As a lifestyle professional I have always used both my home and the 'Dungeon'...over time, a room or 2 in the house, a studio outside the house, and even a large cavernous industrial space I also lived in.
The thing is I think you do need a special place, an area where an atmosphere of  privacy and the bits and pieces are, even if this is just a corner of a room.. part of the headspace (yours and his/hers) is the surroundings.
You will find some enjoy the home atmosphere.. especially a maid or service based submissive, but then some will be thinking of the usual trappings, a cross perhaps, so let them know what your set up is and just be creative.
Pop a knotted rope over a door top and close it.. attach subby, or use stockings to tie them to the kitchen cupboards.. (keep the scissors handy) use the bathroom..its cold and echoish there.

Dressing..its good to feel comfortable in street gear, and its also fun to dress for power and fetish. Perhaps get a PVC/Leather something and if you like heels, go for it.
Mostly is just about good grooming.. look good feel good.

Do have some rope..something for CP..and a blindfold or a scarf..and you are away.
I have a saying.. a good Domina can do her thing in a wardrobe with a tennis ball.. its all about style.
Go for it.. and have fun !!

Yes you can always tell them to buy toys they request it always depends how badly they want to see you and remember do what you enjoy.

The Pro-Domming thing didn't work well for me (though I contribute that solely to my geographical area here in the middle of podunk nowhere Appalachia, and my personal distaste for forced fem - which seems to be all the podunk Appalachians wanted.)
But I did learn a few things I can share...
If you're trying to get the toy collection started, maybe you could charge it as part of your tribute. i.e. They can have a 1 hour session in exchange for a matching set of kangaroo floggers. Lots of subs make leather goods or know how to work with pulley systems. If you can find one with some good skill and talent, you might be able to have him/her as a regular who comes over and works on toys for your business and in return he gets free sessions. Barter goes a long way with a needy masochist! (That can apply to not only toys, but also your clothing, your play space, scene music, and all types of things for your business.)
When I had zero playspace (couldn't even work from home due to having others living here) I had clients pay for a hotel room and I knocked the price of the room off their tribute.
I always dressed up for sessions. I felt that it was not only proper to provide a paying client with as much fantasy fulfillment as possible, but also, dressing for work helped me with a certain level of seperation between the Dominant I was paid to be and the Dominant I was naturally. I had a few clients that were repeaters, and I got to know them well enough and felt comfortable enough with them that I did a few of their sessions in casual wear.

Good luck!
