TheHeretic -> Iran to escort Gaza blockade runners? (6/6/2010 5:04:46 PM)

Now here is a way to really turn up the temperature and tension in the region.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/06/gaza-blockade-iran-aid-convoy

Iran's Revolutionary Guard naval forces are prepared to escort the peace and freedom convoys that carry humanitarian assistance for the defenceless and oppressed people of Gaza with all their strength," pledged Hojjatoleslam Ali Shirazi, Khamenei's personal representative to the guards corps.

I'm sure the President would find this challenge "unprecedented."

That is a HORRIBLE idea.

Aneirin -> RE: Iran to escort Gaza blockade runners? (6/6/2010 5:23:26 PM)

I can see how this is going to be interpreted.

Iran is playing right into the hands of Israel.

Did you know Iranian assets in US are still frozen?

So you think their intent is something other than the obvious "interpretation?"

Both Iran and North Korea watch us still tied up to our eyeballs in Afghanistan and Iraq.  They are both feeling spunky because of it.  I am afraid they are both going to keep pushing until something boils over.

At some point we're going to be scrambling to bring enough man power or weapons to bear on either or both of them.

pahunkboy -> RE: Iran to escort Gaza blockade runners? (6/6/2010 6:16:32 PM)

yes-  but we spend a good penny on bullets.

Level -> RE: Iran to escort Gaza blockade runners? (6/6/2010 6:28:31 PM)

Israel will sink any Iranian ship attempting this, and at this time, there isn't anything Iran could do about it.

Those damn Persians...

If Carter would have had any balls we could have fixed them when they invaded American soil back when.

Enough tongue and cheek, you all do realize that until we actually have a few well established democracies in the Middle East we have to be ready for...........anything. It's obvious somebody over there wants war, and I sincerely doubt it's the Hebes.

I'd really like to have a time machine, Abraham really could have fixed all of this.......Couldn't he?

Cute.

Perhaps if you stopped the war-mongering you might start getting your point made.

Signed: a pro-Israel anti-fuckup Jew.

Agreed.  I suspect that the UN would quietly pat Israel on the back for doing that.

The hijacking of the truth: Film evidence ‘destroyed’

Protesters say Israel had an assassination list. Israel says soldiers fired only in self-defence. So what really happened on 31 May? Jamal Elshayyal, a journalist with al-Jazeera, woke with a start to the opening salvos of an Israeli assault that would transform the decks of the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish vessel bound for Gaza, into a bloodbath.  From the ship’s position deep in international waters, satellite images of Israeli speedboats and helicopters approaching the vessel were beamed across the globe before communications were abruptly cut off, leaving the events on the Marmara to unfold away from the eyes of the world. Six days after the bloody assault that left nine foreign protesters, mainly Turks, dead, nobody can recount with any conviction precisely what happened that night. The convoy of ships, whose passengers included writers, politicians and journalists, had been expected for weeks, with organisers loudly broadcasting their plans to run Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip and draw international attention to the situation there. From the beginning, it was clear that Israeli forces were concentrating in their largest numbers on the Marmara, a ship carrying some 550 peace activists. The remaining five boats were much smaller and easily commandeered. After the Marmara was subdued, the passengers silenced, and their recording equipment confiscated, Israel disseminated a carefully choreographed account of the events that night that would dominate the airwaves for the first 48 hours.  Full article here

I wonder what the relative strengths of the two navies are?... Or will it be the air forces that make the difference.

I am still jittery over those sling shots.

Do you mean that an illegal invation and near distruction of Iraq didn`t "really turn up the temperature and tension in the region."?!

I`m sure your Mcgramps could handled it better.<cutting sarcasm>

You thought it was a great idea when the Dems in Congress were voting for it, O59.
