Aneirin -> Oil for hair? (6/7/2010 4:13:02 AM)

I am using olive oil to condition my hair, just plane old extra virgin cold pressed stuff out of my kitchen, but am noticing my hair taking on a reddish tinge which I have read elsewhere might be attributed to the regular use of olive oil. I have read elsewhere that olive oil is particularly good  for lighter coloured hair, but my hair is dark brown normally and I like that colour, so am now wondering about using coconut oil as again I have read elsewhere that coconut is particularly recommended for darker hair.

Does anyone know ?

I also tend to use organic only hair and skin care mixtures, so I am not really interested in anything that contains isopropyl alcohol, SLS,SLES,propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol,DEA,MEA,TEA,formaldehyde or the use of parabens.

I use wan coconut oil regularly as deep conditioning treatment. I like the results, and do recommend it.

I second the suggestion above.  I always have a container of coconut oil in the shower and use it on my skin everyday and on my hair once a week or so depending on the weather/humidity.  I have lots of very fine hair and only in the past 6 months have I needed any sort of conditioner (age does such wonderful things to a person's body[:-]).
A good friend of mine has dark wirey thick hair and she uses it everyday to smooth out the frizz.

I don't know about the lightening of the hair, but I do know that extra virgin olive oil will take stains off of teeth, so maybe there is a connection. You might want to try regular olive oil instead.

When I do a hot oil treatment on my hair, I use almond oil. I have dark brown hair and I've never noticed any lightening. But then I don't use it all that often.

From what I've read, any of the natural oils from nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies will help to condition hair; avocado oil is supposed to be really good too.

Yes, and that is why I keep away from the chemicals I listed above, as they are typical constituents in skin and hair care products. Once you know what those chemical names are, you might think differently about what you put on yourself.

Propylene Glycol.......On skin, it makes the skin look smoother, but ultimately ages the skin faster. It can denature the skin's protein, leading to poor, saggy skin. It can penetrate the skin quickly

Polyethylene Glycol...... It is also used in personal care products. Over time, this chemical can cause premature aging of the skin.

There are others just as bad and more so, but the ravages of time are bad enough without accelerating the effect by using a  chemical concoction that in higher strengths and quantities is used in industry where personal protective equipment  is recommended to prevent contact with the body.

But one may ask why a concern over these things, as surely they are safe, they have been tested as safe for use, but does that use mean short term use or long term use ? We are as people essentially a now people, we want results now, so if a product produces that now result we tend to use it, and it has to be safe or it would'nt allowed to be sold for the purpose.

Anyway ;

-- compare old home made soap to todays-  the old bars last alot longer.

I had an aunt that put mayonaise in her hair.

I got a mil cut for summer.  I also do not like to put dye, or goop into it.  I also shy from the plastic coat deodorant- use it randomly instead of regularly.

I use baking soda for many things-  at times to brush teeth.  It is also good for cleaning dishes.

Anerin- the items you mention- when alone maybe are harmless but when combined and hyped up=  do take a toll on us.

The coconut oil I use? It is warm, not wan. Fucking sleep deprivation.

Aneirin -> RE: Oil for hair? (6/7/2010 8:30:12 AM)

Yes, I got that, as when I do olive oil treatment, I warm the oil first. It seems warm oil penetrates better than cold oil.

MissAsylum -> RE: Oil for hair? (6/7/2010 11:04:41 AM)

i recommend vitamin e

Aneirin -> RE: Oil for hair? (6/7/2010 12:04:04 PM)

Thanks, vitamin e is in coconut oil, so that is another point in that direction.

But specifically, has anyone heard is coconut is recommended for dark hair. Well in dark I mean dark brown wavy tangly disaster type hair that as soon as you take no notice of it, it tangles and does it's own thing. I understand hair that is oval in cross section and being not as strong as straight hair which is circular in cross section.

Jojoba and sweet almond oil are great for hair. Just 2 or 3 drop on dry hair will take all the frizz out without being too greasy.

also try Argan oil! You can be a bit more liberal with how much you use. I drench my hair in it, and it smells great.
