I just fail to see what is so interesting about a bunch of people booting a bag of air around a field, I mean what is it about the game that seems to incite the wanker in people. Normal people seem to turn into neanderthals when exposed to that thing. Perhaps the reason why it is tolerated still, is that it is seem as an outlet for the last vestiges of tribalism in British Culture, a case of better it be allowed albeit heavily policed so the neanderthals can let off steam in a contained enviroment.
But of Panorama tonight the future of UK football might even be in doubt, with such large clubs in some serious debt, and no, we don't want any more government bailouts to tax the taxpayer even more.
But yes, I can see the possibility of football violence being displaced to the home enviroment seeing as what football seems to do to even some of the more placid in society whence they don a team supporter shirt and grab a can of wife beater. I wonder though, if the majority of football was dominated by women, female football players on big salaries, would there be as much interest from the male, would there be the same problems.
If it came to be proved that domestic violence was a particular problem on tv footy nights, would it be banned from tv to cut the violence, if it did, that would also punish the more restrained football supporter, ( there are some, perhaps the majority, but no one ever hears about them), but something will have to be done if the so called national game is proved to incite domestic violence, I don't think it will be banned, it has too many positives, but perhaps an idea would be a supervised venue where the game can be viewed away from the home enviroment and er, no alcohol, as that also is a factor in game related violence.
And on the subject of alcohol, the constant condemnation of the British public regarding the stuff, perhaps the truth of it all, is it is too easy to get hold of and people have more available time to consume it these days as no one really has to work from sun up to sun down anymore.
