Natural death is not a hard limit - but murder is.

Incorrect!

Murder is the ultimate form of breaking up; death is only a symptomatic result. Murder as a break up tool guarantees you won't be subject to break up remorse or second thoughts. Avoiding the legal consequences it also serves a very practical positive result of not having to see you ex at a common friends party somewhere down the road and feeling jealous.

I don't understand why some people list 'death' as a hard limit. I would assume that we would all want to avoid death in all situations?

Unless, of course, death refers to necrophilia. In which case, good for them for letting me know they won't be doing anything illegal.

Thankfully I've avoided that branch of morbid thus far. My extremes usually related to submitting to pregnancy for inbreeding. I suppose I should be happy they admitted their desires upfront.

Killing oneself is not a crime

It is in California, at least. They arrest you if you survive. Granted, you'll be likely put in a mental institution, but it's illegal all the same.

Now, if you mean that it's not a moral crime, then that's a different thing altogether.

I still get thrown off balance when I see people list in their hard limits things such as amputation and tooth removal. I can understand permanent damage, especially in a TPE situation. I also saw a hard limit of weighing over 105 lbs. But... amputation? Really?

No, you won't.  If an adult, you have to admit yourself to a psychiatric facility (in other words, consent to be admitted) and you don't get arrested.

Forgot this part.  I agree, it's silly.  How about, I'm gonna pick a partner whose moral codes align with my own, whom I can trust my life with, and with whom I do not need to worry about such ridiculousness?  [;)]

I disagree. Natural death IS a hard limit for me. Grieving sucks. Any kind of death is a hard limit for me now. No murder. No natural death. Nope. Not gonna do it anymore.

Agree 100% !!!

It's my only 'hard limit'!

In fact we have it in our 'Contract' that beth is NOT permitted to die before me, and if she does she knows - it will result in her being given her 'release' from slavery!

So THERE! [:'(]

IronBear -> RE: 'Death' as a hard limit (6/11/2010 4:45:44 PM)

Neets knows only too well, that if she died before me I will personally follow her and drag her back from where she is by the pubic hairs.

fitzroy10 -> RE: 'Death' as a hard limit (6/11/2010 4:58:04 PM)

I think death as a hard limit is a ProtectYour Ass clause for the Dom/Domme---sort of a Whoops, I think that was too much voltage affair. On the other hand when you reach my age sometmes your are tempted to say Life is the hard limit.  82 if you are wondering

If I read that I'd just assume the person was trying to be humorous.

It's obviously pointless to include it because a killer isn't going to care what your list of limits are.
"but but you promised you wouldn't kill me."

What are you going to do haunt the guy? Common sense doesn't seem to prevail much these days.

If you are a Dominant saying it then perhaps you don't want to be used like one of those suicide clinics. Does that often happen? No, I've never heard any Dominant mention it in their journal.

It seperates the wheat from the chaffe, so to speak.

TRUE submission involves the gift of a kidney!

Thinly sliced? Just a teensy bit of pepper?

Well, does stealing a candy bar count as theft?

I'd say it counts, although you could argue (if it were small enough) that it was more symbolic than anything.

Now, if you went to the knuckle, that would be (IMHFO) past "symbolic" and well into "hard, hard limit" territory for me, anyhow.

IronBear -> RE: 'Death' as a hard limit (6/11/2010 6:23:21 PM)

Death as a hard limit is a double edged sword for me. I refuse to die till I am bloody ready Been there done that, have the scares to prove it too and been rejected several times. Death for me only means I've settled all the scores I have yet to settle, made my peace with those I need to and am ready for the positive ascension when I take over heaven and open it up as the Collaring fields with the Angels there to be seduced and hell becomes my ClubMed BDSM.. Perhaps then I sit with my forefathers in the halls of Valhalla.

Just my personal view and not every one's cup of tea.

Missokyst -> RE: 'Death' as a hard limit (6/11/2010 6:41:45 PM)

It was just the end of the finger, half way down the nail bed. <<<SHUDDER>>> just thinking about it hurts me.

A real-time friend of mine has "snuff play" as a hard limit in his profile on here.  When I quizzed him on it because I really HAD thought that went without saying because to me anything intended to bring about the death of your play partner violates both "SAFE" and "SANE" for me.  He just laughed and said you never can be too careful.
