ORIGINAL: pahunkboy The British want us to stop bashing them. London mayor tells Obama: Stop bashing Britain... Boris Johnson is a nice but dim public schoolboy, a proper upper class twit, ( think Harry Enfield and your understanding is not far off the mark ) with his own ideas about things, and he tends to be very vociferous about things the proper government prefer not to comment about, but it was noted last night on the BBC Question Time, a show where politicians get a grilling on their affairs, that Obama's reference to BP as British petroleum, which it has not been called since 1999 when the company adopted the simple BP, he was perhaps making a point about the fact that BP is a British company. What's this, did he expect the lap dog to lie down and roll over, was this a stab in a direction of another country, a safe bet given the special relationship America might have had with Britain UK sentiment over Obama's remarks suggest special relationships mean nothing, his use of the old term for the company was an obvious stab at Britain and it was not very welcome with remarks made about the special relationship only being there when it suits the US administration. But it was also noted last evening that though BP was British Petroleum and was the Anglo Iranian oil company, it has an equal number of American directors as British and of it's workforce, two thirds are American so ideas about crushing a company might affect America in more ways than is thought of, for BP like so many other corporations is in truth, a multicontinental operation. Interestingly or not, the sub contractors that drilled the hole that is causing so many problems was an American outfit, Haliburton I believe was mentioned.
