Be careful what you wish for Sanity.

From your link:

Some say that even though environmental groups aren’t dominating the debate, their issues certainly are —and are driving huge swings in public opinion against drilling and in favor of action on climate issues.

It won`t be the "environmental" groups who take the GOP out the shed for a whop`n.

It`ll be the gulf state businessmen and voters who will.

The more they say this is Obama`s fault ,the more they have to explain how.

People know where the frick`n oil is coming from and who`s well it is.And who let them drill 5 miles down without a back-up plan for if/when something went wrong.

I hear that in Canada, they require back-up wells before extraction.

Why can`t we do that here?

He's obviously been at the comics again. I'd suggest that he sticks to The Losers rather than Kick Ass in future.

OH yeah. I'm sure the way Obama's handling this disaster will earn him a lot of votes... [8|]

Owner59 -> RE: Obama wants to know 'whose ass to kick' (6/12/2010 5:54:26 PM)

It won`t loose him any.Especially if the rightist keep their lips moving....which is a garantee.

Because there`s no mis-handleing.

President Obama was just expressing the same frustrations all Americans have and gave them a voice.

Your discomfort comes from supporting the assholes who caused it.

So now that we`re listening, what is your plan to deal with this disaster?I mean the oil disaster, not the PR disaster. We know what your plan is there.

Denial.

Don't worry about the oil spilling into the Gulf, Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) says, because the worst spill in U.S. history is "not an environmental disaster," just nature taking its course.

"This is not an environmental disaster, and I will say that again and again because it is a natural phenomenon," Young said after Congressional hearings last week.

luckydawg -> RE: Obama wants to know 'whose ass to kick' (6/12/2010 6:03:00 PM)

So folks want a president who whines just like they do, and doesn't provide any sort of leadership. OR do anything. But voice the same frustrations that all Americans have...Is that really the "Change" America voted for? Ya really think so Owner?

And Mr young is exactly correct that if Clinton had not veoted oil development in ANWR, this would not be happening.

Jeffff -> RE: Obama wants to know 'whose ass to kick' (6/12/2010 6:06:02 PM)

Yes ,nothing like destroying every natural resource we have so we can dive a little farther.

Aneirin -> RE: Obama wants to know 'whose ass to kick' (6/12/2010 6:26:54 PM)

Just out of interest, just what exactly is a president supposed to do ?

My observation of Obama, is he is grasping around trying to find out just exactly what to do, given the fact that a disaster of this sort has not happened before.

If you were the president, what would you do ?

Owner59 -> RE: Obama wants to know 'whose ass to kick' (6/12/2010 6:33:56 PM)

It`s not drilling most Americans are against.

It`s unregulated,un-tested un-safe,un-supervised,un-prepared for problems drilling that normal folks don`t want.

And that`s pretty reasonable.

Folks are learning the hard way,the real way that the cost of a gallon of gas is more than the price at the pump.

Hey lucky, did you vote for that asshat who said the spill wasn`t an environmental disaster?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/03/don-young-gulf-oil-spill-environmental-disaster_n_599392.html

I can undersatnd if you prefer not to say......[:D]

I saw a gulf state republican foam at the mouth when he heard that.

Which tells me that this transcends left-right politics.

It`s being done.

The relief/back-up wells were started almost immediately(ETC?..Aug.which means Sept Oct),while simultaneously a number of other options were put in motion. They are basically doing every possible thing they can,all at once.

We`ve seen the attempts and failures.

The problem was allowing drilling that deep without developing the means to control accidents that deep.

In essence, the drilling technology out paced the safety/accident prevention technology at those depths.

5 miles down is fucking deep.Just because we can drill that deep doesn`t mean we should without the ability to handle accidents in a timely way at those depths.

They also do that in South America and make them have a blowout prevent-er installed, the reason they do not do that here is because the units cost $500, 000. each and according to BP in the senate hearings it would not have been cost effective.  Because they are/where only making around $93 million in profits a day, so you can see where an expense as high as $500,000. would send them into the red

At least that is what the people in charge of oversight believed when they approved the well running without them, gee...I wonder what party those people belonged to.  I noticed their seats where empty during the senate hearings last week

Sanity -> RE: Obama wants to know 'whose ass to kick' (6/13/2010 7:52:47 AM)

You don't know what you're talking about - the rig that blew out had a blowout preventer installed, the apparent problem was procedural. The established procedure wasn't followed, a typical case of human error.

Owner59 -> RE: Obama wants to know 'whose ass to kick' (6/13/2010 8:08:49 AM)

hmmm.

That`s like going boating without lifevests for every passanger. It`s just asking for trouble, begging for it.

Sure we know accedents happen. It`s not if but when.

So when one does, you`d best have a back-up plan.God forbid someone drowns for lack of a USCG approved vest.

The back-up plan for the gulf was a c&p of the back-up plan for the Arctic. In other words, some lazy fucks submitted a bogus plan in place of a real one and some other lazy fucks didn`t check it to see if it up to par before letting them drill.

"Oil companies are supposed to have spill-response plans prepared before they begin drilling in American offshore waters. Minerals Management Service safety regulators are supposed to scrutinize those plans before signing off on them. But it's looking more and more like no one bothered to read BP's backup plan before the Deepwater Horizon rig began drilling 5,000 feet below the ocean's surface."

So now we go from Obama kicking ass to whining and not providing leadership.  I'm guessing what would make you happy is for Obama to hold up his finger (like a Stalin or Hitler, maybe?) as he declared that we'll just keep on drilling in the deep sea to make oil companies happy at the expense of everyone.  Nice.

Oh, and a company (more precisely, an oil company) taps into oil 20,000 leagues under the sea (sarcasm so don't so on about how many leagues under the sea it is), and doesn't have all the safety mechanisms in place to stop a disaster from going wrong on its watch is now called a natural disaster.  Interesting.

Nice and interesting.  [;)]

This is what leadership looks like.

http://www.oilonline.com/Magazines/OffshoreEngineer/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/34814/categoryId/1/US-orders-BP-backup-plans.aspx

Leadership for cons is secrete meetings w/ the BPs of the world so they can write their own regs.
