Status: offline 		This may be a strange question, but as I have no master to ask, I figured that I would post it here. A friend and I got into a discussion the other day regarding "Refined and Educated" submissive and slaves. My friend is of the opinion all any Master wants is an obedient mindless servant.

I don't share this opinion at all. I would like to think that some do value their slaves or submissive for their minds. So we got to thinking, if you are the type of Master that values intelligence and knowledge  what topics would you like your submissive or slave educated in? These might be things not taught in your run o' the mill public school. Such as an in depth knowledge of art or music, formal etiquette.. so on so forth.. What would make a slave or submissive more appealing?

Status: offline 		What ever is her speciality as well as a reasonable general knowledge. Makes for many interesting conversations and a chance to learn from each other. She just have to be able to put up with my love of American Football, Rugby League and Martial Arts including MMA, boxing, kick boxing and the more traditional Chinese and Japanese forms.  Diversity is the food for great and interesting relationships if all involved have an open and enquiring mind.

Status: offline 		I doubt I'd relate that well with a slave who's "refined and educated" because I don't regard myself as such. Same goes for "an obedient mindless servant", if there is such a human thing....

As my profile clearly states, my ideal slave is one who relates to all that I am - that means my laid back, earthly vanilla self, too. I like being served and I like adult sharing and conversation, too. The girl's place is to fulfill ALL. I give adequate clues and cues as to where my headspace is at any particular time, all she hasta do is interpret and adjust....

There's no universal answer to that one. 

For me, I want a sub that is able to do housework and some chores around the house, so she needs to know that.  I want one that can see situations differently than I and make suggestions, so a non-engineering background is good too.

Note that if she is not trained in anything I want, it's my responsibility to see that she does get educated there.  No real Dom would expect a fully-trained s type who is perfectly trained for him right out of the box.

Status: offline 		I've met a great many men who don't like intelligent women to partner with. They do prefer someone dumber and more malleable. I'm not compatible with men like that, and I make it obvious that I don't respect them. The Man is glad I'm so smart. It's a resource to be exploited, as is my ability to cook and other things. He knows that if I have a huge qualm about some idea of his, it's usually a sign that he needs to rethink it. By doing so, and measuring twice, he only has to cut once. Without any intelligent backup people will fuck up mightily upon occasion.

Status: offline 		I think that the type of specific requirements you mention are more common in relationships that are primarily service-oriented, and in FemDom relationships. I think that men can value and appreciate skills that a submissive or slave brings to the table, but are less likely to have specific qualifications required up front. Some things I've suggested to male submissives are massage, sewing (especially being able to follow a pattern), cooking (both fancy and plain), "handyman" type of things, gardening, personal assistant training, and things like pedicures, manicures, styling hair, and so forth. The last one might not be utilized in a male-run household, but many of the other skills might be useful. My former Master and former Dominant both enjoyed my training in yoga and gymnastics.

I'm almost certain that your friend would, if he/she knew the details, consider Carol my "obedient mindless puppet". In my experience, people who use this phrase are of the same ilk as those that like to talk about doormats. Generally, I find them judgmental of things they have no comprehension of. Typically, I see a large degree of holier than though tossed in and they come fully equipped with a solid sense of the one true way.

All of that means that I find people who use this phrase to be both laughable and not folks I would call a friend.

in my experience, there are many Masters who desire an intelligent slave. In my current search for Ownership i've met quite a few who not only want but appreciate an articulate, intelligent slave, for many reasons...from their desire to simply be able to have enjoyable dinner conversation to being able to take her to business functions and cocktail parties and the like, and have her be able to interact intelligently social fashion with others with thought and wit.

As far as training goes, that also depends upon the Master and the slave, and what he wants from her - as a slave, i tend to always be interested in learning new things, i am educated and widely skilled in a number of things. i also find other people - particularly men - fascinating and i am very much a social chameleon in being able to talk about most any subject. Recently i learned a lot about cricket (the sport, not the insect). So in general i'm a good fit for a variety of needs.

There are some that enjoy having their slaves take formal training, from culinary school to massage. i know of other slaves in addition to me on these boards who have such formal training. There is a certain genre of Master who that appeals to - and there are equally as many who would rather have a "blank canvas" - again, up to the Master and slave involved.

Status: offline 		My owner is not "refined and educated" but is very wise, based on life experiences.  I am only somewhat refined and somewhat educated, but, say, if I had come straight out of finishing school we'd really have nothing to relate to or talk about.

What he did want, is someone compatible with him in all areas of his life.  We enjoy the same things - music, food, movies, etc., and have very similar moral codes and life principles.  We make each other laugh. He is not interested in formal etiquette, because that's not how he conducts his life.  He was more interested in someone who could go with the flow, be spontaneous, and who was down to earth.

Our personalities mesh.  We are always laughing with each other and loving on each other. 

Of course I do what he wants, but if my obedience did not come with the rest of the package, he'd be bored stiff.

He has told me he was / is attracted to me because not only am I educated and street smart but I am a down to earth girl who gives him a run for his money. He loves that we can talk about anything weather its politics, religion or simply curl up and watch the Raiders on tv. Lol He likes my boldness and bluntness. He doesn't want a robot. Thank goodness!

Because I'm living in Asia, a man once asked me to learn the traditional tea ceremony for here in this country (which is different as it turns out for the more well known Japanese ceremony) and to show it to him. That really surprised me cause he was not a "refined" man. He was a pretty blue collary kind of guy who'd never been out of his own state except for boot camp and the following army duty.
