I liked the book. Her objectification and transformation was interesting. I actually enjoyed it. As for the movie, the 10 dvd version seems to stick closest to the book. I didn't find the characters wooden, they simply don't resonate with lots of emotion. But then again not everyone does.

thought i was the only one with the 10 dvd disk version.

i read O and the sequal return to the chateau which sorta sucked

but as a work of erotica O is closer to what can be real than most I've read

but as the thing that really got me going, I have a fondness for O

i read O in the original english version

I HATED the book.  I felt it was a misogynistic piece of trash written by a very insecure women who was having an affair with her married lover...in her words, she says "I was neither young nor pretty, so I had to find other weapons".  Yeah, right.

I actually find the book quite upsetting.  It reminds me of the "snuff" porn stuff.  I didnt find it erotic at all, just women hating.

us misogyginosts need love too

Rene: Obey me because I'm the least dominant male you've ever seen and I deserve the sympathy vote.
Stephen: Obey me because I'm an arrogant stuck up prig who offers you nothing accept my gracious willingness to accept the gift of your submission.

Rene was merely a tool for her awakening. He was not in possession of the skill to take her where she needed to go. O is property. Adding anything further to that statement negates the gravity of what it implies. Now we can pretty this up in the hopes that some will find it easier to digest, but for all intents and purposes what is considered ill treatment is merely a way of being for those that yearn for that brand of captivity.

She adored the cruelty. It factored into her servitude and ownership. She's the ultimate Frankenstein. It can be argued that Sir Stephen made her that way. But I'm of the belief he merely unleashed what was already there.

The continuation of the tale in The Return to the Chateau merely highlights this. Many see the character as debased without recognizing that's precisely why she's with him. He was never the puppeteer that most present him to be. But definitely a mad scientist of sorts. His greatest contribution to her person was providing the vehicle for its release.

Not sure why I sat through the entire movie, but I was bored beyond tears.  It wasn't very hot at all, and certainly nothing I would want to engage in.

At the risk of seeming tacky, my first thought after seeing Story of O was that these women need to occasionally wear bras. I've never seen so many droopy breasts on such otherwise young and beautiful women. Or maybe the person in charge of casting had a thing for that kind of look.

I also found the characters boring. The men were snobbish bores, and the women not too far from Stepford wives. That's just not what I'm looking for ...

haha i did see someone noticed O had a tramp stamp.. i think we should have a movie watching marathon on here.. haha anyways, I watched two diffrent story of O movies.. one being a shortened verison it discribed more of when Rene and O met then the other was more about the book which was called Histoire D' O which is what everyone on here has been talking about.. ;) which is a fantasic film. I've read the book and watched the movie.. indeed it was a very good treate.. i have to say that watching the book helps tell alittle bit more of what O is thinking inside while everything is going on. its a fantasic book. when i first met my kitten she insisted i read it plus read sleeping beauty.. i read both and they were both very amazing.. i especially read story of O with the most interest. considering it was more "real" yet very fasinating :)

When i was 13, my stepfather had the story of "O" on a beta tape (if you know what that is, your giving away your age). I have fond memories of it. I remember sitting there and watching that tape over and over and masturbating to it many many times. I had thought recently of watching it again, but now am reconsidering because of everyone's reviews. I would surely hate to ruin such a fond memory.

didn't see the movie till a few years ago, and withhold judgement till subbing sees it again...:)

70's fashion is hard to stomach!  Oh, O, that haircut!

Woops!  Forgot I posted something similar, and better, on the last page.  Still though, what were we thinking?

I never watched the movie but read the book. I didn't like it. It caters to such a small niche of BDSM. As a dominant, I would never want a submissive such as O as a mindless robot with no personality is of no interest. I don't understand why any submissive worth anyone's time would want ''masters'' such as those either. They had the same lack of personality.

Hello there-

There are multiple versions of the movie. One was made in English either in the late 1970s or early 1980s. I have seen that one. I first read the book at the age of 13. I saw the movie some 10 years latter. The movie like many movies that are made from books leaves some things out, and changes some things. I was disappointed in the movie having read the book first.

I enjoyed the book and from time to time re-read it. I still own both the movie and the book. I think the movie you are speaking of was the one that is more recent and was done by some fairly big South American porn star. I think in Portugese if I recall, but I am sure IMDB can help with that.
