Conversation in the "Admit" thread sparked this topic.

Have you been the reciepient of a good deed or have you committed a good deed that made you feel like you have made someone else's day better which of course made your day better too?

I'll start....all weekend I spent 10-12 hours in the hot sun staffing an ambulance at a private horse show. I was filled with suntan oil, bug spray & dirt. I had only a few hours of sleep each night since Fri and each day had to be at the station by 5:30am to get everything ready.
Yesterday at the end of it all I was unstocking the ambulance by myself when the career staff (those guys that are paid....I'm a volunteer) actually came out to help me. The Capt. ordered me to go home & get some rest.
They did NOT have to do this, it was a volunteer event that we organized & participated in 100% yet they took it upon themselves to do the dirty work in the end so I could go home.
To top it off, a couple of ladies came in w/a 5-foot veggie sub & other items that were left from an event they were sponsoring & gave it to us. The career staff told me to take it all home & enjoy being able to sit back & relax w/o having to worry about fixing something to eat.
I actually almost started to cry, I was so tired, so dirty & sweaty & I was extremely grateful for their kind act.

Tell us about your experiences.

my good deed for the day is not blabbing to everyone that you were really smelly and they didn't want to break out the oxygen masks....

well, today I did some bigger shopping (bigger doesnt mean such huge volume but rather big and heavy stuff) and whilst I searched my wallet as I decided to get a take away for home one of my lil posh cat food tins felt on the floor, I did not pick it up straight away as I wanted to get out my wallet at first, when a guy came and picked it up for me

As a horse show mother, VP, and one who's seen more than her share of accidents, I want to thank you. I still have vivid memories of an old friend being thrown, and then trampled on by the stallion she was showing. The only reason she survived was that several nurses were on hand and they took charge until we could get an ambulance there.

Wow DesFIP, that must have been horrifying to witness!

Saturday I was stationed at the "Show Jumping Arena" where the jumps are small & the obstacles are breakaways if the horse misses.
Sunday I was stationed on the "Cross Country Course" that had all the more advanced jumped and the obstacles were solid & did not breakaway. Thankfully noone was hurt (2-legged or 4-legged).

I am sorry to say, that considering the last few days, the best I can offer is that I did not kill somebody.

This is especially sad, as I, or even more my Oldest, are the recipients of great kindness at the moment. He is in the hospital, and will be for at least two more weeks. While I make sure to be there as much as possible, I am immeasurably thankful for the wonderful, kind nursing staff. During the times that I can not be there, they take not only professional, but also loving, tender care of him, and each time I need to leave, they make it as easy as possible for me, trying to take away some of the guilty feelings.

I am thankful, and will endeavor to pass it on in the future.

In 2006 I moved into a new accomodation, realising too late that it was infested with cockroaches...a guy I truly disliked at first then became my blessing....luckily I had realised that problem before I had to spend the night there due to still having the other place for the night and arranged straight away another accomodation... that guy made the effort to borrow a car from a corner shop owner nearby and helped me to move my stuff over and even carried them up there in the loft where my new room was at that time...I was gobsmacked he did that for me, considering he barely knew me and it wasn't even his car...havent had much money at that time (though was better of then I am at the moment) but he also didnt want much and I got away with just 30 pound (10 for the car owner and 20 for him). I tried to pay him a lil bit more at a later time but he refused...those are the moments which are priceless, even more when you live on your own abroad...when all of a sudden you experience real help when you could have never expected it...some of those critters moved with me of course despite taking care but I catched them on time and after I powdered my room big time before going home for 3 weeks none of them was ever seen anymore...so I did not bring that problem into the house from my new landlord...

awwww I so love that!

Red paid for our toll a few times when we were in DC

I truly believe in random acts of kindness!!

Honestly, the last "good deed" I did was yesterday at the races. Walking along I came across an empty soda bottle, so I picked it up and tossed it in the trash.

My grandma (who raised me) lost her youngest son (my uncle) not last December but the December before 2 days before Christmas. He lived with her, and she heard him fall down the stairs after having a heart attack. She was with him as he moaned, and then died before the ambulance arrived.

Her oldest son (my dad) died the next month of brain cancer.

Her dog (which my dad and I had gotten for her) died a few months later.

So this Christmas I found a dog (a Lhasa) that needed a home, and brought it to her. Her first question was a guarded one: "You don't think I'll ever love this one as much as the other one?" But they have come to love each other, and rely on each other. She is 94 years old, and the night of my uncle's death/anniversary, she was very upset. She was in her bed and probably crying. Her bed is a very high up bed...the dog cannot get on the bed. She fell asleep thinking of her younger son, and his death. When she woke up in the middle of the night, the dog was in bed with her. The dog has never been up there again without human help. I think Uncle Dave (or my dad, who always knew the value of a pet's love) put the dog up there to take care of her.

Right! Demi Moore could play me (tough DM, not like the "Ghost" DM) and a mean, I-hate-my-job Lisa Ling could play the teller.

See? Yours is probably better than not strangling someone...

Frustration--that feeling induced by the brain's overriding the body's basic desire to choke the living shit out of someone who desperately deserves it.

Look at it this way---you didn't strangle a homeless person either.

I took some Pringles out of a homeless persons' bag of groceries. I don't think they realized how much fat and additives are in those delicious flattened circular morsels.

They will thank me later.

Why are the homeless so clueless about their diet?
