ORIGINAL: yourdarkdesire Lance, I must admit that I have never had any contact with anyone with AIDS, that I know of. Of course, I am not active so not exposed as others. But if I can for a moment compare it to someone slowly dying of cancer, then I know imtimately what you both are feeling. Sometimes all you need is someone that will let you vent without being judgemental. And of course, someone that helps to keep your day sunny. Our family lost a lot of friends when my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. Bless you for sticking by your friend. Yes, it is a slow death, similar to that of cancer. The main difference IMHO is that AIDS is a Syndrome (as in Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.) So, there's always something different. This time pneumonia, the next time liver failure, but not serious enough, and then the most common of flus, that anyone else coughs once and is done with. MRSA (pronounced Mer-sah) is an infection which about 2/3 of the general population has. Rodney can't throw it off. And the same for "CMV retinitis." Most people have been exposed with no ill-effect. Ever see those "floaters" in your eye? That's CMV. They cause blindness in those infected with HIV. And then, there's this kind of nonsense to put up with: "AIDS stands for Anal Injected Death Sentence" and GAY stands for "Got Aids Yet?" NOT to denigrate your experiences, since they are similar in the prognosis, but YEP - it's great to just pass the time of day, chatting 'bout this and that; fun things we've done. People we know, places we've been. In that, the experiences are IDENTICAL. One reasom you might not "have known of," is that AIDS is now (in many, many instances) capable of being under control - take your drugs, watch other life-style choices, and basically you can live a full and happy life. Rodney contracted AIDS probably 20+ years ago..... It's a long story with twists and turns, but basically, no "cocktail" - as the combo of meds are called - is effective. So, thanks for your kind words..... stay tuned to this station. <OOPS! Lance is showing his age!>
