Status: offline 		A seven-year-old boy was murdered by the Taleban in an apparent act of retribution this week. Afghan officials said that the child was accused of spying for US and Nato forces and hanged from a tree in southern Afghanistan.

Where exactly were there any comments about anyone being "surprised", either in the story or by the OP?

These are the same people and their brand of radical Islam that the Russians called the biggest threat to the stability of the region.  These are the same people who called the Russians evil devils because they dared to do things like educate women. Should I continue?  You wanna talk about the things they did to children who the Russians had given shots?

These are the same bastards we decided would make pretty good buddies because "hey they don't like the Russians".  Karma is a bitch and sometime we get exactly what we sow.

This is just the type of society the Muslim does not want but the peasants can't defend themselves. The radicals also know that it is the mineral wealth of the area the west wants to exploit and will use violence to stop it.

Status: offline 		Very sad of course and a tragedy for the family - but this is what war is about, and whether the boy is hanged, shot, blown to pieces, starves or is crushed under a collapsed building is merely something for the statisticians to concern themselves with.

Our western, Hollywoodesque views of sanitised warfare with rules and warcrimes have no place in the reality, and the sooner we all wake up to that and understand what war is, the sooner maybe we might be more reluctant to call for it or support it, as much as we support the troops once the idiots we keep electing have decided on another.

If this instance has made an impression on you, keep it in mind for the next time our glorious leaders start their patter, and name this image war, so you will remember that the old lie truly is the old lie.

Well I can't speak for you folks in the UK, but most of the people I know over here are aware that hollywood doesn't always portray things the way they really are. Most movies are made for entertainment not history lessons.
