Not if there aren't any jobs. I know young teachers who look for years on end.

If she wants to sell her soul to God she has to live with the consequences.

'Wants' is a little strong.

"needs" isnt the right word either. she has choices.

Maybe. Maybe not.

You don't know. At least I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.

The only benefit of the doubt religious people give is to the invisible.

Okay, let's make it fair: I think that public schools should not hire teachers with religious backgrounds. What's my 'justification'? Instead of a morality clause, a logicality clause: anyone would honestly believes in an invisible guy in the sky obviously has faulty logic circuits, and isn't qualified to teach.

There. It's fair.

Oh, and no more funding or tax breaks for churches or religious schools for any reason whatsoever.

It's only fair.

So instead of discriminating against someone because they are pregnant, we should discriminate against someone because they have a religious preference.

As long as they are not teaching their religion in a classroom, what does it matter?

No profession offers a guarantee of a job. No degree comes with a promise. Double majors are almost a necessity. Back up plans are a requirement. Having some skills outside your "chosen" profession are almost mandatory.

When you go to work anywhere, you are "chosing" to work there. Its a choice. Dont like your choices? Then look elsewhere. Its really that simple.

Wow you're insanely bitter against religion. Also you don't seem to understand the difference between public and private.

If you don't like religion, just leave them alone and let them do their thing. The more you demand that religions comply with secular standards the more you integrate the two.

And if you think that secular organizations shouldn't follow secular standards because religions have different standards, your own logic circuits aren't exactly in order.

You seem to have this misguided delusion that "fair" is embodied in treating two entirely different concepts in exactly the same way, and IMO that sort of thinking ranks up there with Mormonism and Scientology in sheer level of wtf.

Exactly Tazzy.

And if there's going to be government intervention in helping people find jobs, maybe they should create more jobs at the government run schools, rather than sticking their hand into the religious ones.

Funny how Silence can turn the fact that religious schools are able to offer good paying jobs into a negative against religion.

I don't think religious institutions should get any secular benefits, like tax cuts and government money, if they can't comply to legal standards for equal employment opportunity.

You can't fire a teacher for using her body in a legal secular fashion anymore than you can deny black people access to your restaurant.

This isn't rocket science, and there's no apologies for this bullshit.

They can if she signed away that right. It always pays to read what you are signing.

Public law trumps private documents. At least it will, after the revolution. If there is no revolution, well -- everyone will be dead anyway, and it won't matter.
