Life is really transient...being able to enjoy the frivolous things doesn't mean you can't stomach the rough things. And don't think guns are always the answer - yeah a gun is nice to have when someone's already intending to kill you, but if they didn't intend to do so, firing a shot gives them no option but to try to get you before you get them. Being able to talk your way out of things is a good skill to have, probably at least as valuable as knowing how to load and fire a weapon. Don't be too quick to dismiss us modern girlies as having panic attacks if we lose our ipod. I already know what I'm capable of. Your quite right about talking your way out of it. Grabbing your girlfriend or child and running away is also always the best option. There are no cowards at gunfights only survivors. Never fire warning shots. If the weapon leaves your holster you must be willing to do whats necessary to control your environment from that point on. Always remember the 21 foot rule. An Aggressor can be within grappling distance in 1 second. Time and distance are your friend. DON"T ATTEMPT TO BE A HERO. Retreat or move to a defensible position. In the Event of an Active Shooter do not...Repeat do not run towards the sound of the gunfire and attempt to sort the shooter or shooters out from the victims trying to flee. Active Shooters often try to blend in with the confusion and crowd. The Active shooter will know who you are, but you more than likely won't know who he is until he shoots you. Remember that two or three Concealed Carry's trying to act like Rambo will only slow the police tactical response while they try to figure out who the good guys and bad guys are. Always remember that a Pistol is like a like a little inadequate survival kit meant to keep you alive just long enough to get a real weapon with a stock of some kind. Preferably that fires 12 gauge or Rifle bullets. In answer to your final question...Why yes...Yes I have.

Well put Darw... when the iron comes out the mouth shuts, otherwise you might get it stuck in there. Naormally I figure on one second between sight of the weapon and death. I used to be that fast and I see no reason why another can't be now. What surprises me though in this thread is that some seem to think I am talking out my ass. Motherfuckers with the brain of a dishpan ask "who are they" ? As if they have never seen a yacht or a very impressive office or a mansion. The people who have those things dummy, and can afford to keep them. How much do you make ? Now let's have a look at the bills. $500 a month to dock the $50,000 yacht. Then we have a $3,400 a month house payment. Add in a thousand a month to heat and cool the place. You have tweo Mercedes'. a Mazerati and possibly a Rolls. Insurance on them is more than most people make. Then there are those habits, like caviar and filet mignon, prepared by master chefs who likely make more than anyone on this forum. Then there is that country place, the house in Florida and who knows what else. Most of us couldn't afford their fucking electric bill. You ask who "they" are ? That's who they are. And all that money comes from us. Ask again who they are. If you don't know you will never know. How fucking much do they have to throw in your face before you can see ? It's a totally different lifestyle and a whole different set of priorities. None of us has experienced this type of life as far as I know, and those who ask who are they are obviously ignorant to the fact that there are rich people other then their great Bill Gates, another charming individual about whom I could tell you many things. Who are "they" indeed. To that my best response would have to be how is the weather on Mars, because they certainly haven't seen what has been going on on this planet. And if the exploitation is not apparent now, those who ask why the Bush family isn't eating hamburgers, or the crow they deserve, must have really been the Man In The Jar - Alex Harvey. To not recognize that there is indeed an us and a them is totally ignorant. T

I have NEVER felt like I am a "Doomsayer" sort of person. Most of my life, I have always thought our country was doing well. I am old enough to remember how easy it was to get a job, pay for college and live a great life in the 1980's and even 1990's. When I went to college in the 1980's, most students were not straddled with debt. I could not afford the college I went to 25 years ago without going deep into debt. I feel like I am a REALIST. When I look around and SEE what is happening with foreclosures, housing, many people upside down on their mortgages, tons of homes for sale, unemployment, serious under employment, and the economy, the indicators that I see, tell me, that this country is slowly but surely rolling downhill. I have enough sense, can put 2 and 2 together, and figure this out on my OWN. I wonder how many people saw the Depression coming in the late 1920's? I don't need, depend or expect "the government", "the fucking man", or somebody on the news to spell this out for ME. What I find so amusing, is so many people claim they don't trust what the government tells them, yet they believe everything they hear on the evening news. Many people are little more than robots, they only believe what someone else writes or tells them. I have always been an individual and I have always been able to think "way out of the box". I am not a follower. [;)] As someone else mentioned, the last Depression did not happen overnight. In fact, the signs were there 3-5 years before it even happened. The signs are here NOW, and I am just one of the few that does not have on rainbow shades and can see what is happening. Until, I see REAL signs of life for most people and the "economy" really improving, I will stand proudly on my beliefs. There are none more blind, than those that refuse to see. I know you can't see the person typing on the computer, but I smile more than most people I know. Many find me witty, entertaining, and funny, and I am a happy person. But if I believe something is a spade, I call it a spade. I was born at night, but not last night. As always people can think or believe whatever they want, I am glad I live in a country that still allows me to express my views. Peace [;)]

I'm sure I recall Darwin made great recourse to earthworms in his work, digging up vast areas of his gardens to find them for use in various experiments and observations. One might conclude that earthworms were indeed Darwin's little helpers. There is of course that old wives' tale about cutting an earthworm in two, whereby one is meant to get two worms. Actually its untrue in that what one gets is a dead half that will shrivel up, rot and stink, and a smaller worm, cut down to size that can persist in life but still make a reasonable snack for any flippin' bird that happens upon it. When the sharp blade of reality descends, let us take care that we persist in life even if curtailed, rather than become a shrivelled, rotting, stinking and otherwise unpleasant offcut. E

I co-own two businesses, one is general contracting. The other is a lobster wharf, that also sells and delivers product locally. This is Maine. Both of those businesses need 4 wheel drives, large ones, and in construction you have to have a pickup truck. Yes I am a liberal elitiest alright, at 1:30 I have to go down to the wharf and oversight the unloading of a seiner filled with herring to be shipped to Canada. After that, I will be delivering decking materials to a jobsite and making a dump run, the fucking life of glamour. You don't get successful without working hard, and in my opinion, the day the business owners stop working right alongside their employees, you lose profit, respect, and more importantly, sight of your original goals. My man goes down there at 4:30 every morning almost to either unload seiners, pack lobsters, fill trays with bait, or whatever else is going on that day. Your ideas of life are skewed to say the least. So, hopefully I won't get any more pressure treated splinters, they hurt like a bitch, or spill bait in the bed of my truck today. Grow up. FR With all this talk of guns, some may be thinking that they might rob their way out of it. The major problem will be that there is nothing left to steal. You're out of food. You want to steal some food but nobody has any. So you steal ipods. But then you find that there is noone out there with the money to buy them. This will be one of those situations where the guns will provide a defense, but not much else unless you actually go hunting. If this is the epitome of human civilisation, it's quite disappointing. Because your phone takes movies and you get 12 pills a day this is better ? Sorry, I just can't agree. I think people have become weak and dependent upon technology way too much. Note that I do not exclude myself. If you drop me off in the forest with some spears or guns and a bowie knife I'd probably end up eating the bark off of trees. So it's not like I am pointing fingers. The survivalists of today seem to mainly do it for sport. I wonder how different it will be to do it out of a real need. Even in modern society, there will come a time you can't afford gasoline. That is bad enough, if you still have a job now you can't get there. But then it gets to the point that truckers can't afford fuel either. That's going to be hard to deal with. And there will be nothing. What good is even $100 in welfare and $200 in foodstamps worth when bread, if even on the shelves, costs $10 a loaf ? And people will maintain their bliss. Did you notice the entertainment industry crying for a bailout ? Hey, they could make a good case because they account for a significant portion of our exports. But the fact that they are one of the sectors doing alright indicates that people will find the money for entertainment, and the brakes on the car can wait. We The People are a big part of the problem, and indeed "they" could never have gotten so far without us. The real focus should be on what to do next, even now to prepare. The reasons why this is happening are only important in the context of preventing it from happening again. T

I work very hard just to meet the basic necessities. If I did not have such an awesome landlady I would not be able to afford rent, let alone food, water, and electricity. My neighbor lets me use his internet. So after rent, food (rice and beans with yogurt and fruit), water, and electricity I have somewhere around ten dollars a month. My medication cost 15$ (so far). I cannot afford a car. Such a thing is a luxurious beast that would feed upon my wallet. After this month I am not sure how I am going to pay for my medication. I've already sold my guitar (good bye baby blue) and I can't get my head knocked around for 100 dollars any more. I do not need any more brain damage. Yup. There is an inventor all right. Everything is Perfect. No need to worry. I am waiting for the second (viral) and third catastrophes (boooom) to occur. I pray that I am wrong on this because I do not want to be right.
