So I'm a huge fan of Twilight. I know, groan all you like.  Its why I didn't put it in the header. Ha. Dont go just yet, wait for the question.

Stephanie Meyer, the author of the twilight series is REFUSING to write any more twilight books.  She has most of "from Edwards point of view" (the lead male vamp) done.. but since it leaked - she wont finish it.

How Moronic Do You Get?  Seriously?  Does she reaaaaaaaalllllllllyyyyyyyy think she's going to stay in the spot light, famous, be the new in thing Forever?  

Right now Twilight is selling like hot cakes to starving ppl.  Why is she NOT capitalizing on that?  Why is she not writing up several hundred different books from various perspectives all centering around the twilight theme??  Why is she not racing off into 5 different directions with it?  Stock piling millions in a bank account while her success lasts?  She cant possibly believe that Twilight has made her famous for the next 500 years and she can take her time doing w/e she pleases?

She did just come out with a short novella.. but in an interview I just read she said she most likely would not be doing any more.  Why?  She hates money?  

The logic, I do not see.  Its driving me bonkers.  Obviously since I'm a fan, I want more, but that has nothing to do with the logic.

I used to be a fan of Diana Gabaldon's series.  But she TOOK years upon YEARS to get out the next book.  Literally, I started the series when I was 15 and I'm waiting for like book 6 or something to come out. Perhaps its out?  I'm tired of waiting - I found something "new" - else - to interest me.  

How does Meyer not realize that will soon happen to her?  Sure she's got the new "it" thing NOW.  It wont last forever........ so why is she dragging her heels capitalizing on it??

On a side note :  Isnt it nice with all these new young sexy men popping up in random series?  The twilight thing, The Tudors.  Is it just me or do they all seem dominant?  I swear.........  I would LOOOOOOOOOOooVE to be transported back to when Henry the 8th was King (or perhaps just in my mine to where J. R. is King).

Do you mean Ann Boleyn? I know Henry was awful about beheading wife's and such.  BUT I can produce a male heir.  In fact i already have.  So therefore, my head would be safe and I could have soooooooo much fun creating all sorts of ruckus. Ann was feisty - I know, but my feisty would give her feisty a run for her money.  Seriously.  King Henry would have to keep me chained to a bed to keep order in his court.

Plus my feisty isn't disrespectful.  I just do things I shouldn't. Like the first time I went on a cruise, security chased me round and round the boat Because I simply didn't like the way the DJ DJ'ed and kept sneaking in TO DJ when the DJ stepped out. Apparently gusts are not allowed to dj. And no, securit did not catch me, I'm too quick.

It really would have been a blast.

Who here loves history?  And who has blu ray? And why are most of the history DVD's not in blu ray yet?

I think a lot of the not being able to produce a male heir was directly related to the king. I think you really have no idea what kind of person he really was. I doubt you would have kept your head with that attitude.

Back to the OP...maybe she is just tired of the series, maybe she has made enough money to keep her happy and well off for the rest of her life so she now feels she can write what she wants to...maybe, just maybe she is doing what she wants with her life. maybe she isn't driven by greed,maybe she wants to follow her muse wherever it leads her, rather than just churn out endless Twilight books.

Well, churning out HUNDREDS of books is, I assume a bit of sarcasm on your part, lol.

While I don't disagree with Arpig necessarily, I think that Stephanie Meyer might just be a little full of herself is she is refusing to finish a novel because people found about it. It isn't like she was a published writer prior to this series.

If she doesn't need the money, more power to her. Of course, the residual sales on these books and the movies would be enough to keep me happy and allow me to go off and do whatever the hell I wanted to. I would write if the mood struck, but I would be having myself a boat load of fun.

In reality though, as much as many have enjoyed the series, continuing on and on would be like the whole Friday the 13th thing. After a while it gets kind of dull, even for the diehard fans.

Sure, the creators of Lost could have gotten another season out of their franchise, JK Rowling could have done a follow up book on Harry Potter and so on and so forth... She could end up with a book series like Robert Jordan.... die with a bunch of loose fucking ends and disappoint fans that have read 11 of your books (happened to me)

This!  I am not a huge fan of Meyer - and yes, I have in fact read every single book (although mostly because I was bed bound by ankle surgery and 3 inches of snow for two weeks.)  I think she is smart - there is only a certain amount of time that her series can possibly remain popular.  Her stories, unlike many authors are not get detailed and complex and her writing style in itself doesn't lend to an extremely long winded fan base.  By quitting now she can ride out the rest of her fame pretty comfortably without risking looking much of the high.  She'll go out while she's on top.  She won't become one of the more sad authors who hit fame hard - riding on a trend which rose them to vast public status... but wasn't talented enough to keep it.  (Which is what sadly seems to sort of happened with Julie Powell on a smaller scale.)   IMO she lacks the kind of attention to plot, detail and general sticking power that authors like JK Rowling, Jean Auel and others like Stephan King still have.

After all, how many times is she going to re-tell the same story and expect us to buy it?

She is probably just trying to regroup and figure out what she is going to do.  Maybe trying to figure out the best way she can sell a book everyone already has a copy of. (well at least the first half).

I saw an interview with Hall and Oates once. One of them talked about the kind of music that they were able to make now that they'd become a success...something about it is in becoming a billboard success that they get the kind of money that will afford them the opportunity to do what they want to do creatively.

Can't come up with the interview, and heck it might have been Robert Palmer (although I don't think so), but I think it's an interesting point.

Oh and to the OP: Try Karen Marie Moning. I think her Druid series might be in line with your tastes.

I'm sure she has more than enough money from this by now. And I can't blame her for wanting to do something new instead.

I bake, but if all anyone would eat were my chocolate chip cookies, I wouldn't be inspired to try new recipes and the cookies wouldn't be calling my name anytime soon.

However I understand your frustration waiting for the next book in the series. I think we all go through that.

for real about the twilight series auther? that is the most dumbest move ever done.. In 5 or 6 year she will be forgotten due to her not capliizing on the stories that she could be making.. i know this was said before above but still.. i cant believe it. she will be outlasted by the Harry Potter books.. hell if i was making books and im having movies made after them i would want to try to beat strwars.. it would be close to impossible, but i would try for it.. its a goal right?? starwars will be around for lifetimes... comics, books, movies, and more and more books.. its that amazing.. the twilight might want to do the same, try to make her stories last for lifetimes.. considering her movies have major heat as well as her books.. they made my kitten's daughter finally read.. haha.. all i can say is this is the worst move ever made for a story writer.. you cant stop while your still ahead..

Meyer is a young author. She has plenty of time to grow into a better one...

I have never read her books, so I have no comment as to her skill, but she could easily come up with other stories, etc, and they may even be better reads....
