Brain -> AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats (6/16/2010 10:50:16 PM)

FTA:

By a margin of 47 percent to 42 percent, people trust them more than Republicans to guide the economy, and slightly more — 64 percent — say their household budgets are in good shape.

In addition, people want Democrats to win control of Congress by a 46 percent to 39 percent margin. That is the second straight month in which Democrats have held a delicate advantage on that question since April, when 44 percent preferred Republicans and 41 percent picked Democrats.

"When Clinton was in office, we were doing exceptionally well. Then Republicans got in office and we are where we are," said Daniel Lowery, 23, a warehouse worker from Fostoria, Ohio, who wants Democrats to continue leading the House and Senate.

AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats

There's encouraging news for Democrats battling to retain control of Congress in this fall's elections, with the party holding a slender edge in public trust for shepherding the economy and small gains in those saying their finances are healthy, according to a new poll.

Polls and other random stupidity?

Brain -> RE: AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats (6/17/2010 12:31:23 AM)

No,

FTA:

The AP-GfK Poll involved landline and cell phone interviews with 1,044 randomly chosen adults and was conducted by GfK Roper Public Affairs & Corporate Communications from June 9-14. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.

They polled 1,044 people out of the 309,519,000 living in the us and they think they have an accurate picture of things?[8|]

Words of wisdom from Daniel Lowery, 23. He was 6 years old when Clinton was elected president. Of course things were fine. He was in first grade.

So then the next time a poll comes out that supports a conservative/Republican position we can put you in the I don't think that's accurate column?

And then the Bush years.......

Yes.  I see what you mean.

Brain, we'll have the real poll in November. That poll is 100 % accurate. No "accurate to +/ - 3-5 points."

Jeffff -> RE: AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats (6/17/2010 11:39:17 AM)

Is that going to be like the Tea party in the primaries?

thishereboi -> RE: AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats (6/17/2010 7:33:45 PM)

If they only ask 1000 people, then yes, you can.

luckydawg -> RE: AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats (6/18/2010 4:44:42 PM)

well the poll is not incredibly accurate, simply becase there is no national election for congress. There are hundreds of individual elections.

But the poll is reasonably accurate, and can be compared to other similar polls.

A sample of 1000 is suficient if honestly chosen.

And how many people are you under the impression that most other polls ask?

This is pretty standard.

luckydawg -> RE: AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats (6/18/2010 4:49:58 PM)

Another thing to remeber about polls is that they can be based on the general Public, or on likely voters.

Likely voter polls (if honestly done) are always more accurate, and lean to the right compared to the general public.

This is a random adult poll. So you have to add 3-5 points to the right.

" Even so, there's plenty in the poll to encourage Republicans, and nothing that contradicts many analysts' views that the

GOP has a solid shot of capturing majorities of one or both chambers of Congress.

The public's anti-Washington mood remains robust, with 55 percent saying they want a

new member of Congress — bad news for Democrats with more incumbents to defend. While Republicans strongly prefer a fresh face, Democrats are divided about evenly over whether they want to re-elect their current representatives and 6 in 10 independents want someone new — all ominous signs for congressional Democrats.

In addition, a low 24 percent approve of how Congress is doing its job, a hefty 72 percent still say the nation's economy is in poor condition, and 77 percent consider huge

federal budget deficits a top concern."

Do you have a poll to support that?

Brain -> RE: AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats (6/18/2010 7:13:35 PM)

That is how all polls are done. It is too costly to survey 300 million people when you are conducting a poll. Obviously you know nothing about statistics. I suggest you go to college and take some university courses.

Fortunately, most people will not defer to your 'expert'scientific analysis.

I don't remember anything like that when I took statistics so I don't know what you're talking about.

Gheaust -> RE: AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats (6/18/2010 7:26:11 PM)

And most people don't believe AP polls either.. due to notorious democrat bias.  Just like Rasmussen and zogby lean to the left.

The issue, of course is the sample.   Which is like the ny democrat that could n't believe bush won, because she didn't know a soul that voted for him....

servantforuse -> RE: AP-GfK Poll bolsters congressional Democrats (6/18/2010 8:54:12 PM)

Alvin Green might not be in the race. He just might be charged with a felony..
