Ok, I admit it...I was a Disney baby.   Living in CA made this very easy.  So, my perception on entertaining cartoons may be slightly different then most.   But I have to ask...what the hell is a Squidbillie...and why?

Didn't we warp enough young minds with the sponge in square pants?   It started with round little kids who spoke worse then a drunken sailor on leave, complete with flip top heads...then, we progressed to the boy with what can only be called the ultimate flat top hair-do, complete with his entire family, right down to the baby who never stopped sucking a pacifier.

The ocean dwelling sponge who wears tidy whities and lives with a starfish, I thought was the ultimate in brain altering television programing...but now, we have a family of hillbillies, and they are squids.  Oh, the best part, they can only be shown late at night because the content is so offensive, lol

What..Yogi Bear and Boo Boo not good enough?

_- I thought the same thing.  When my brothers family was visiting- the kid would not settle and watch the cartoons- as somehow- our here- were "outdated".  (the channel line up)

to me- it should have been good enough.  But it wasn't.

I miss Bugs Bunny.  He was funny as heck and definitely NOT PC.  I like some newer cartoons, such as when Inuyasha was on at night. In fact there are a few others that bring in some of the older characters, like on the Harvey Birdman show.  Or the Venture Bros, that really play off the old Johnny Quest.  But most of the stuff is crap, pandering to the lowest end of intelligence.
On the upside, even when I am old and senile I will probably still be able to keep up with modern thinking.

I miss Foghorn Leghorn and the Roadrunner and Quick Draw McGraw and so many more.  I do not get the kids cartoons today.  They all seem to be linked to action figures or something.

That said, Squidbillies cracks me the hell up, big time.  It is definately an adult cartoon, like Family Guy and such, but it makes me giggle.

Could be cause a couple of the characters remind me of kinfolk, but thats another thread all together...

We're happy when we're sad, ugh!
We're always feeling bad, ugh!"
"How are you?"
"Terrible!"
"That's fine!"
"We're happy when we're sad. ugh!"

They don't make cartoons like THIS anymore

And there was Mighty Mouse to save the day!  And Rocky and Bullwinkle, with Natasha and Boris.   Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo.  Many great cartoons.

Don't be hatin' on Spongebob...

Now I learned a lesson I wont soon forget
Listen and u wont regret
Be true to urself dont miss your chance
and u wont end up like the fool who ripped
his pants!
It's a much better show for children than Ed, Edd, and Eddy, which I had to cut one son off on, even though I kinda liked it myself.

I guess you weren't a Popeye fan? I don't think there is any more violent cartoon than Tom and Jerry, they were the inspiration for Itchy 'n Scratchy.

I have to admit I'm semi-addicted to ATHF, Venture Bros., and Shin Chan, not to mention Robot Chicken, although that's not technically a cartoon.

I'm not stoned enough for Squidbillies, apparently.

The art of cartooning reached its apex with Beavis and Butt-head.

All hail Mike Judge.

Hi xssve,

The cartoons I grew up on were Disney classics, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Simba the White Lion and Crusader Rabbit.  Universal favs like Huckleberry Hound, Yogi and the Flintstones came after my time and I have no clue who Itchy and Scratchy were/are, lol

Alot of the ones I see now are geared towards adults, Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy, Southpark, Simpsons, Family Guy, and now Squidbillies.

Violence was always in cartoons...  Natasha and Boris were blown up weekly, Wil E. Coyote was accident prone, but for some reason, that never bothered anyone, lol   The language and content is another story.

As for the sponge, it's like watching Tele-Tubbies....harmless but it will eventually suck out your brains.

You can't compare Disney cartoons of old and Adult Swim-type cartoons of now, because they're aimed at different demographics. Hell, Spongebob isnt the same as the Adult Swim cartoons. Squidbillies isn't intended for kids, and therefore shouldnt be looked at in the same light as a modern day cartoon aimed at kids.

I agree totally with Lazarus1983...Most of the adult swim cartoons on after midnight are for teenage boys and those in their early 20's I would say and maybe a little younger. I do like a few of them but mostly they are too violent or gross for my liking. I love the old Disney cartoons and others but "Family Guy" and those of that genre are my favorites right now...There is this one weird "not really a cartoon" on Adult swim I used to hate but now watch when it is on called "Tim and Eric's Awesome Show"..it is so bizarre its like I have to watch it...ha ha..Another one I like is called "Home Movies"

I never heard of squidbillies.  My daughter loves most of the old cartoons I used to watch. She has bugs bunny on dvd. and she loves watching the old Tom and Jerry cartoons also. The only newer cartoon that I really like is one called Phineas and Ferb on Disney. Its a really good one and I could literally watch it all day.

BTW- Has anyone ever noticed how much spanking goes on in those old Tom and Jerry cartoons?
