I wonder if I'm alone in liking mood music and a have favored play list for scenes that are mood specific.

My play lists are for when I'm in Domme mode and what mood I'm walking into a session with.
It's a little hard to explain so bear with me, please.

A session/scene without music seems a little too stark and missing an element that helps set mood, ambiance, drama and an element of theater.

When in sub mode I don't expect to pick music but I feel it does give me cues to my Dominants mood.

My play lists draws from heavier rock with a somewhat faster beat for aggressive sessions.
E.g -
Metallica -
Enter Sandman.
Of Wolf and Man.
Etc.

Prodigy  (Fat of the Land  album a long time fav.)-
Fire Starter.
Breathe.
Smack My Bitch Up.
Etc.

NIN -
Don't Lie
Etc.

For slinker moods-

NIN-
Closer

Massive Attack -
Paradise Circus

Metallica-
Unforgiven


Just a brief cross section of the music I prefer to have playing during a session/scenes.

Do you like music playing?
What are your tastes in music playing during a session or are the cries, begging and the sound of a meaty smack of a palm or a crop against bare flesh music enough?

Music, for me can be a distraction  -  and when it isn't, there is usually large periods of time when i don't hear it.   So, for me, i like fairly calm music.  More background noise than anything.

I can play with or without music. If there is music I prefer it to be the very music I might listen to daily. I had speakers wired up in the basement dungeon space in my former residence and I listened to a play list of my favorite hard rock and heavy metal tunes. The only time music distracts me is if I do not like it - which is the case with most cliché public dungeon or play space fare. Nine Inch Nails and other drivel such as that. Once I heard something cool playing at a dungeon and inquired to find that it was the soundtrack from Bram Stoker's Dracula. It was neat music and very fitting but only a few tracks were really usable. Even though it is been played to death I do like that Enigma MCMCXVDXXLLII album. Another good mood music thing is the Passion Of The Christ OST.

No vocals. The only voice I want to hear is his. Any other voice and I can't concentrate so well on him which means lesser headspace and a lesser quality scene for me.

Generally, I dislike music as part of a scene. I turn music into movement, and unless I am really specific about how that scene is going to go---eep!---I do not want the music to guide me. At parties, I totally tune it out.

One of my friends is a scene DJ, and I have to admit that in a PUBLIC party setting, her beats really made an enormous difference for me. I loved it, and felt very energized, without feeling choreographed. As a result, I am more open to working with music for ME.

LOW VOLUME music. I want to be able to hear every sound my playmate is making, if that is nothing more than a suppressed breath.

Theme music generally I like (I don't do "Scenes") includes my Classics:
  1. Sibelius (Preferably "Finlandia")
  2. Bach's Organ pieces and especially the Fugues to set a dark Gothic mood
  3. Some Beethoven (depending on my mood)
  4. Occasionally Strauss's waltzes
  5. Ravel's Bolero (Brings back memories of Torvel and Dean on ice too)
  6. Wagner, especially  - Tannhäuser 
  7. Jimmy Barnes ~ "Drivin Down The Highway" from his Freight Train Heart album

I think I say this every time someone asks about mood music but for me it's always Concrete Blonde.

I love having Bloodletting throbbing out of the speakers as they are standing there bound and blindfolded. I like "Because I Can" and "Someone's Calling Me", too.

Metallica can be good, so can a band called Apocalyptica, they play instrumental versions of Metallica songs on the cello.

Inkubus Sukkubus and Enigma can both be good mood setters as well.

I've noticed that slowly dragging a knife up someone's back while following the path with my tongue goes very well with the verse in "Down With The Sickness" by Disturbed.

Although it troubles’ me to think my mind may even remotely share a thought with hibiscus I too do not want auditory distractions, not even for second. Recently I was part of an experiment or took part in an experiment where an older thinking about sight and sound equipment was reintroduced. Although in many respects it did heighten the experience and the brain chemistry lasted much longer it was as if I were being deprived of taking her with me throughout the entire journey.

Some Beethoven? 7th Symphony would be great. Actually with Beethoven it's hard to be wrong.
Also, Carmina Burana would br great.
Also some new age stuff, like Enigma, Adiemus, Era, ...
Some hard rock and heavy metal would also do the job, Metallica, Guns&Roses, Therapy, AC/DC
