Double fudge brownie, warm from the oven, with chocolate ice cream and a liberal helping of hot fudge poured on top.

*sighs*  Needless to say, I can't be comforted very often or I'd be big as a house.

I'm from Texas originally, so for me it is chili, rice and enchiladas or ham and grits with red eye gravy.

My mom makes a pot of beans I've never tasted anywhere else.  They're like baked beans, but not sweet at all.  Sometimes she puts Spanish chorizo in it (Spanish and Portuguese chorizo tastes similarly to linguica, whereas Mexican chorizo is spicier), and serves it over rice (or sometimes she just blends the rice right into the pot).  It's delicious.

Fried chicken and fish is another good comfort food.

Macaroni casserole, which I haven't had in about 20 years, is another.

Okay what is strange is mom cooked all the time when I was young. There was nothing but homemade foods on the tabe but my comfort foods are none from that table.

Chef Boyardee Beef Ravioli... In the Can... Cold. (Number one Comfort Food)

Jackass Kay-so-Dill-Yas - Tortills covered in Cheese, Sour Cream, and No Beans Chili.

Viena Sausages - Yeah those things that are supposed to me meat of some kind.

Beef Bologna rolled up stuck with toothpicks and cut into bites.

I am SO easy to comfort.

Mince and Tatties.  My Mom is Scottish and this is a traditional Scottish dish. It was our absolute favorite comfort food as children and still is. Two generations later and my neice still requests it as he birthday dinner.

It sounds yucky when described, but it is delicious. It's browned hamburger simmered in a gravy, and mashed potatoes . My Mom always chopped up carrots and added that to the mince. You put the hamburger < mince > over the potaoes < tatties> and enjoy.

I almost listed this myself! We called it "Slop". My ex knew it as "Hamburg Gravy". Definite comfort food.

I never heard it called that! Ohhhh yeah, that brings back memories!

I used to have a comfort food I'd forgotten about.  After two times going on Atkins, I lost my craving for it.  Chips Ahoy Choc. Chip Cookies dipped in milk.

Oh...I almost forgot one I love now as the season for it here is limited.  Fresh avocado mashed up with a little salt, medium salsa on top, and tortilla chips to scoop it up.  Sometimes sour cream on top if I have that in the house and my son hasn't snarfed it all down.  I don't like those soggy tasting low fat avocados either, and pre-made Sam's guacamole is yucky, lol.

Ohhhhhh...when I lived in California, there was a Bob's Big Boy and there was this split chocolate cake with a thick square of vanilla icecream in the middle and hot fudge on top, with whipped cream and a cherry on top.  OMG...I haven't had one in 21 years.  <whimpers>

Hostess O's, a powdered doughnut with a circle of raspberry filling inside.  I had one once in the past 21 years, that one time when I visited Ohio and got my hands on one.  I saw them online but the price was nuts.
<must plan trip to Ohio...>

As much as I love Atkins/low carb, I do miss a steady stream of Chunky Chips Ahoy and milk

Oh yes...Braised Steak and Onions.

Cubed juicy flank steak and thickly sliced brown onions in a dark brown, fragrant, rich gravy pressure cooked until the steak is melt in the mouth tender.
Served with mashed Potato that has had finely grated brown onion, butter, parsley, cream and a large, large pinch of sea salt stirred through while piping hot.

Mmmmmm !  That is one of my faves too. I like to add mushrooms to mine. < I add mushrooms to just about everything > Either way: over rice or potatoes, simply delish.

Now that I am a mother, my son has me make certain things for him....

He loves my potato salad when it is hot....

He loves my enchiladas, homemade pizza, and the way I make eggs and potatos

Just think, Julia:  One day your son may take the same little trip down memory lane we are taking in this thread. Someday, somewhere your warm potato salad memories may be " shared " with others.

LOL@ myself. I thought you meant hot potato salad, not potato salad in hot weather. My Dad made some sort of German potato salad that was served warm.
