The horrible shakedown of BP continues by the despotic Obama administration.

Head of fund for oil spill victims pledges fast payments

NEW ORLEANS – The administrator of a $20 billion fund to compensate Gulf oil spill victims pledged Monday to speed payment of claims as a federal judge considered whether to lift a six-month moratorium on new deepwater drilling.

Kenneth Feinberg, who has been tapped by the White House to run the fund, said many people are in desperate financial straits and need immediate relief.

"We want to get these claims out quicker," he said. "We want to get these claims out with more transparency." Feinberg, who ran the claim fund set up for victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, said BP has paid out over $100 million so far. Various estimates place total claims so far in excess of $600 million.

Fast payments, as long as you sign up that you can't sue them. It's not that different than the scam of class action lawsuits.

As I said before, $20 billion is not going to cover it. They'll give you five grand at the drop of a hat, but what happens when that is gone ? Think the gulf is just going to be fixed and you can go out fishing ? I think not.

When people opt for immediate gratification they usually lose in the long run.

No Term.

The fund is being run with no such strings.  No one is giving up their right to sue.  I can't find the video of the interview or the article right now.  That was the word from the guy running the fund.  You submit your claim and it gets paid with no one signing away any rights.  Another of the reasons why the control of the payments was taken away from BP.

Anyone know where I can buy a shrimping business in southern Louisiana and get the docs made up to show it was acquired in 2005? I dont actually need the boats as such, just the docs to say I have some boats.

Oh yes folks - just watch the scammers gather if this fund pays out claims without adequate verification - which of course is what takes time and delays payments in normal claims. There's no question that those affected for real need help urgently but I would suggest that banks et al connected with those people are instructed to provide overdrafts, which can then be recompensed from the fund later on, rather than simply pay out rashly whomever turns up at the door for the sake of speed.

If only we could trust the banks.

The head of the fund says that where fraud is proven the fraudsters will face criminal charges, so you can chance your arm if you like Lady E, this was also the case with 911.

The head of the fund says that BP had a good organisation structure in place for dealing with claims so I wouldn't expect much to change in the short term unfortunately.
