Part of the problem, I think, is that it's difficult to find a film that shows any "lifestyle" as it "really is." Jean Painleve's "Love Life of the Octopus" comes to mind (it does an effective job of showing the lifestyle of sex crazed octopodes as it really is, as far as I know), but in general films do not present anything resembling an accurate picture of their subject matter. They present a distorted view that is far more watchable and marketable. So it goes.
I think it might help if you narrow your focus, and your question, just a bit. What in particular are you interested in seeing portrayed? Some films are likely to be very good aesthetically while others hit some raw emotions right and others may have very good scenes depicting certain types of play.
You have to accept the innate limitations of the medium of film. You also have to accept the limitations on what kinds of film will and will not get financing and distribution. Films about any kind of "lifestyle" (especially anything that is regarded as taboo by a significant portion of a population) are almost always going to be, in a general sense, distorted and wildly inaccurate. But there may be particular films that get some particular details quite right.
