Great clip.  Very much in his genre.  I had the great pleasure of seeing his performance a few years before he had to stop touring.  Always the consummate entertainer.  You always felt he was having as much fun as the audience.

Victor Borge was awesome!

LadyCimarron -> RE: Do you remember Victor Borge? (6/25/2010 7:34:58 AM)

She's awesome. I could just imagine what Victor's antics onstage would have been like while she was doing her number.  [:D]

Gosh, I haven't thought about Victor Borge in several decades. I had the opportunity to interview him back in the 80's. He really reminded of the Danny (fucking) Kaye. Of course this was a line from Christmas Vacation. Anyway, he was a very nice gentlemen that really liked his scotch and his girls younger than his single malt. Of course this was before I was a MTF TG. Heck who knows maybe I could have gotten lucky.

Victor Borge was excellent and so was the girl in the clip!  Here's someone else who is of that calibre.  This is from a German film, this girl is phenomenal on the piano, this is the last scene from that movie, it was called Veir Minuten.  I have never seen the piano played like this before or since.  It just takes my breath away!

Victor Borge was the man who brought classical music to the masses and with his humorous ways made them really listen. I've seen his specials on TV a number of times and have yet to miss one. He was such a consumate player and a gentleman among gentlemen. A loving and gentle soul. You could always see the joy he got out of his performances and he was a delight to watch.

Hey if you like Victor Borge, you might like Tom Lehrer. When I was 18 and at my girlfriend’s father’s house I saw an LP album from Tom Lehrer, on the cover were all his worst reviews which made me laugh so I listened to it and laughed for a week.

Tell me about it!  I have never seen or heard anything like that!  Just phenomenal!

Mesmerist -> RE: Do you remember Victor Borge? (7/10/2010 10:36:37 AM)

Thanks for sharing this. There is a Victor Borge video on the instant play section of Netflix.

In addition to Tom Lehrer I highly recommend PDQ Bach for musical comedy. I can't find a clip of Hansel and Gretle Ted and Alice but here is audio from his rounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkjR3cdXSS8&feature=related

Veir Minuten - very cool. Reminded me of Shine, one of my favourite music films about the life of David Helfgott, a pianist with serious mental problems. In the scene he wants to use the piano in the restaurant as he's not allowed to play one anymore.

I got to meet him once in El Paso Texas. He was passing though and stopped at the Unversity of Texas at El Paso to their PBS station,KCOS. Truely the smartest, most insightfull, funniest, quick witted, and just the truest person you will ever meet. (Played the 5th on a foam coffee cup held together with a pencil and a rubber band and said he'd just talk becuase because this sounded rather bad and if he kept talking he'd forget his piano was in a pickup somewhere in town driven by some "chap" named Bubba.) He treated everybody as the friend he hadn't seen in a while and was glad to see you again.
